Partial review reasons
Review snapshot
Completeness: Incomplete What changedThe diff adds `FsFileStore` with `put`, `read`, `metadata`, and `delete_prefix`, plus an `overwrite_existing` path that truncates an existing regular file in place to preserve its inode and permissions. Path resolution canonicalizes the root and the target and rejects targets that escape the root; parent directories are opened component-by-component beneath the root handle. A new test module exercises the happy path, error paths, parent-swap races, permission behavior, and prefix-scoped deletion. Supporting changes add `cap-std` to the workspace and crate manifests and widen the workspace `tokio` features. The prior reviewed-head-to-current-head delta is unavailable and is not described as a push delta. Features

temp_dir()creates a unique directory understd::env::temp_dir(), andfile_store_tests.rsdoes not remove it. Repeated local runs can accumulate the test roots and outside directories.Keep an owning guard alive until each test ends. Retain the guard when creating paths with
temp_dir().join(...); otherwise, the guard would be dropped before the path is used.Suggested fix

feature while keeping fs and rt. Add a rationale comment above each cap-std
dependency entry, including the workspace entry, explaining its use by
FsFileStore to keep artifact operations beneath the opened store root.
Review comments at @crates/tiny-artifacts/src/file_store.rs:
- Around line 179-190: In the file-writing flow, the pre-open metadata check
does not validate the object actually opened, and truncation occurs before that
validation. Update the flow after `open_with` to open without truncation, check
`file.metadata()` on the handle, reject non-regular files, then truncate with
`set_len(0)` before writing; use nonblocking open options if `cap-std` exposes
them to avoid blocking on a FIFO.

Add rationale comments for both cap-std entries and remove the unused io-util feature.
The dependency guidelines require a comment above each newly added dependency entry that explains why the crate is needed and what uses it. Add comments above both cap-std entries.
The workspace uses tokio::fs and tokio::task::spawn_blocking, but it does not use Tokio I/O extension traits. Tokio 1.53.3 does not enable io-util through fs, so remove the direct feature.

🔒 Security & Privacy | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Check the file type on the opened handle before truncating.
The regular-file check uses root.metadata(&relative). That check runs before open_with. OpenOptions::truncate(true) truncates during the open, so it runs before the opened file is checked again.
A process with the same UID can replace the target inside the root after the check and before the open. The replacement can be a different file, a FIFO, or a device node. In that case the open truncates or writes whatever object is now at that path, and the is_file() guarantee is lost. A FIFO also blocks the spawn_blocking thread indefinitely.
cap-std keeps the open inside the root. The file-type guarantee still needs to be checked on the handle that was actually opened.
To fix this, open the file without truncation. Then check file.metadata() on that handle. Truncate with set_len(0) only after the check passes. To prevent the FIFO hang on Unix, also open with O_NONBLOCK, if cap-std exposes a way to set it.

Review comment at @crates/tiny-artifacts/src/file_store.rs around lines 179 - 190: In the file-writing flow, the pre-open metadata check does not validate the object actually opened, and truncation occurs before that validation. Update the flow after `open_with` to open without truncation, check `file.metadata()` on the handle, reject non-regular files, then truncate with `set_len(0)` before writing; use nonblocking open options if `cap-std` exposes them to avoid blocking on a FIFO. Open the store root without a name-reopen race
When FsFileStore::put runs while another process can rename the configured root (for example, a root under a jointly writable directory), these two path lookups are racy: after canonicalization, the root can be replaced by a symlink before open_ambient_dir. For a top-level key, or a nested key whose parents do not yet exist, create_parent_directory performs no successful canonical containment check, so staging and rename occur in the symlink destination and can overwrite a file outside the configured root. Bind and retain the directory handle during trusted setup, or verify the opened handle's identity instead of reopening the canonical name.

Treat a missing store root as an empty store
When metadata is the first operation on an FsFileStore whose root has not been created yet, this canonicalization propagates NotFound before the per-key NotFound branch can return None. That violates FileStore::metadata's missing-object contract and is inconsistent with lazy root creation in put and the missing-root handling in delete_prefix, so hosts probing a newly configured store receive an error instead of None; handle a root-level NotFound as an empty store.

Align public docs with the restored filesystem adapter
Exporting FsFileStore restores a built-in host-path persistence adapter, but CHANGELOG.md:7-8 still tells users that the unreleased version removed filesystem stores, while README.md:86 presents BlobFileStore as the built-in adapter and the module docs remain blob-only. Release and migration guidance therefore describes the opposite of the public API being shipped; update those docs in this behavior-changing commit.

Add the required rationale for cap-std
The new cap-std workspace dependency is added without the required explanatory comment, even though it supplies the security-critical capability handling for FsFileStore and introduces a substantial platform-specific transitive tree. Add a brief comment immediately above the entry explaining what uses it and why the standard library is insufficient.

Remove the unused Tokio io-util feature
This change enables Tokio's io-util feature, but the rewritten filesystem implementation uses std::io::{Read, Write} inside spawn_blocking, and a repository-wide search finds no tokio::io or async I/O extension usage. The fs feature covers create_dir_all and rt covers spawn_blocking, so io-util only expands the enabled dependency surface and should be removed.

Filesystem artifact operations now resolve paths beneath an opened root handle, including when a parent directory is replaced with an external symlink. Add regression coverage for reads and overwrites, and retain the existing path validation and overwrite behavior. The branch also carries the merged OpenHuman #8088 artifact export work from fork PR #5, plus the current upstream main regression test.
