test(flows): drive the workflow builder from chat end to end - #8465
Adds tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs: one scripted-model JSON-RPC e2e for the path a user takes. A web-chat turn to the orchestrator spawns workflow_builder asynchronously; the builder's proposal is delivered into the thread as the card; then the agent ("save it") and the card each save it.
Until now the only scripted builder test drove flows_build headless (json_rpc_flows_full_arc_discover_build_create_run). Nothing covered chat → orchestrator → async spawn → delivered proposal → save.
Test-only: the new file plus its [[test]] entry. No product code changes.
A schedule trigger plus three steps with distinct per-step config: each config is asserted on its own node id, so a shift would show.
Completion is published.SubagentCompleted reaches the bus for that task from workflow_builder.
The agent's "save it". A second spawn, then the builder's create_workflow.
That parks on the approval gate. The test answers the approval_request the web channel carries with approve_once, as the user does.
One flow exists, with the requested name, born disabled (schedule trigger).
The card's save, as WorkflowProposalCard.save does it.
If the proposal carries saved_flow_id, it must name the agent's flow, and the card only enables it (flows_set_enabled).
Otherwise flows_create, born disabled with "created DISABLED" in its logs, then flows_set_enabled on the new flow.
Behaviour pinned for open fixes
Two checks pin today's behaviour behind consts. When a fix lands, the pinned assertion fails with "set = true", so the fix PR flips it and gets the real assertion.
AGENT_SAVE_RECORDS_SAVED_FLOW_ID = false: the agent save records no saved_flow_id, so the card creates a second copy. The count of 2 is pinned as the duplicate-save bug. Fix: fix(flows): settle the proposal card when the agent saves it in chat #8460. With it, the test requires the count to stay at 1.
The model is scripted with the in-process FIFO (support/rpc_e2e_harness.rs). Each entry is keyed on prompt text that only one agent carries, so no scripted response can be taken by the wrong agent:
"Build or edit a workflow with" is in the orchestrator's own prompt.md;
"## Passing graphs to tools" is appended only to workflow_builder's prompt.
The router-only harness skips the core boot, so the test initialises the bus and the process default CoreContext itself:
CLI host shape and the default (packed) tool groups;
spawn_subagent needs the resolved owner scope to open the sub-agent session store.
It runs in an exact-filtered child process, because those are process-wide and one-shot.
On a timeout it prints a trace: each captured model request by agent (message count, last role, last text, tool calls), every SubagentCompleted/SubagentFailed with its error, and how many scripted completions are left.
Added end-to-end coverage for workflow-builder chat, including proposal details, completion behavior, and saving flows from both an agent response and a proposal card.
Tests also check that scheduled flows are created disabled and enabled when saved from the proposal card, and verify the resulting flow-saving behavior.
One scripted-model JSON-RPC e2e for the path a user takes: a web-chat turn
to the orchestrator spawns workflow_builder asynchronously, the builder's
proposal is delivered into the thread, and the user or the agent saves it.
It asserts, in order: one spawn and a turn that ends on its own reply (no
re-spawn, shell or sleep; the orchestrator prompt carries the rule); the
persisted workflow_proposal carries the requested graph name and each of
three distinct step configs on its own node; SubagentCompleted is published
for the task; flows_create from the card yields exactly one flow whose
schedule trigger is born disabled; and an agent "save it" creates the flow.
Two checks pin behaviour that open fixes change, each behind a const that
the fix flips: the late subagent_completed web-channel event (tinyhumansai#8451) and
saved_flow_id recorded by the agent-side save.
The agent's "save it" runs first (one flow, born disabled), then the card's
save as WorkflowProposalCard does it: enable the proposal's saved_flow_id
when it has one, else create a flow and enable that. With the agent-save fix
the count stays at one; until then the second copy is pinned as the
duplicate-save bug behind AGENT_SAVE_RECORDS_SAVED_FLOW_ID.
The JSON-RPC router used here skips the core boot, which is what
initialises the in-process bus, so subscribing to SubagentCompleted got
None. Initialise it before the router, as the published cron e2e does.
…mes out
Each captured request's agent (by prompt marker), its message count and
last role, the tool calls in it, and how many scripted completions are
left, so a timeout says which step of the script went missing.
The timeout trace now carries every SubagentCompleted/SubagentFailed the bus
saw (with the failure's error) and each request's last message text, and the
child installs an env-filtered tracing subscriber so RUST_LOG shows the
spawn path.
spawn_subagent opens the sub-agent session store under the dispatch's
resolved context; the router-only harness never boots one, so the spawn
failed with "subagent session store has no resolved owner scope". Install
the process default context as the CLI host does, with the default
(packed) tool groups.
The agent-side save parks create_workflow on the approval gate, which the
default core context installs before a test could configure it. Answer the
approval_request the web channel carries with approve_once, as the user
does on the card, and drop the auto-approve that never took effect.

Adds a feature-gated end-to-end test for workflow-builder chat. It checks orchestrator behavior, proposal content, sub-agent completion delivery, and workflow creation when the agent and proposal card save a workflow.
Changes: Workflow Builder Chat E2E
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Register and prepare the integration test crates/openhuman-cli/Cargo.toml, tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs, scripts/__tests__/rust-product-enumeration.test.mjs, scripts/test-rust-e2e.sh, scripts/test-rust-with-mock.sh
Registers the test behind the flows and http-server features and adds it to JSON-RPC test enumeration and execution. Adds fixtures, helpers, diagnostics, and isolated test setup.
Check builder launch and proposal delivery tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs
Checks that the orchestrator ends its turn after spawning the builder. Verifies proposal details and checks whether the late completion event reaches the web channel.
Check agent and card saves tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs
Checks the approval-gated agent save and proposal-card save. The test pins the current behavior where the proposal has no saved_flow_id and the card save creates a second flow. It also checks schedule-flow enablement and task cleanup.
Issue 8459 tracks duplicate flow creation when the card save happens before the agent save. This test covers the reverse save order and notes that the reverse-order behavior remains uncovered.
Issue 8451 tracks late SubagentCompleted events not reaching the web socket. This test checks that event-delivery behavior.

tinyhumansai/openhuman#8450: Changes proposal-card saving to use saved_flow_id; this test checks the agent-save-then-card-save path.
tinyhumansai/openhuman#8466: Tests workflow-builder proposal configuration and approval behavior that this end-to-end test also exercises.
tinyhumansai/openhuman#8448: Changes orchestrator behavior after spawning the builder and proposal naming; this test checks both.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 5ff74
The test can be merged with a bounded coverage gap, but the live-completion assertion should check that the proposal reaches the web channel before it is used to validate that fix.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The change summary lists only test-related changes: the new tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs file (+783 lines), its [[test]] target in crates/openhuman-cli/Cargo.toml (+8 lines), and one-line target-list additions in scripts/test-rust-e2e.sh, scripts/test-rust-with-mock.sh, and scripts/__tests__/rust-product-enumeration.test.mjs. The test file at head covers the chat turn, the orchestrator spawn, proposal delivery, SubagentCompleted publication, the approval-gated agent save, and the card save. These paths map to the linked issues #8463 and #8460. The test also asserts the #8448 graph-name stamp, which the PR description cites as related work. That assertion tests existing behavior and does not change product code. No unrelated product change is evidenced.
The whole-PR diff could not be read at head, so this verdict relies on the change summary and the file read of the test. Product-code absence is not independently confirmed by diff.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Both directly linked issues require product code changes. This pull request adds only a test and pins the current defective behavior.
[#8463] Requirement: forward late subagent_completed, subagent_failed and subagent_awaiting_user events from LateSubagentSink to the web socket, through the progress mapper and a fresh Surface. At head, tests/json_rpc_flows_builder_chat_e2e.rs defines const SUBAGENT_COMPLETED_REACHES_SOCKET: bool = false; with the doc comment that LateSubagentSink forwards only SubagentFailed. The pinned assertion expects the late completion to be absent. No product change implementing the forwarding is evidenced in the change summary.
[#8460] Requirement: record saved_flow_id on the unsettled workflow_proposal message when the agent saves via create_workflow/save_workflow, and make WorkflowProposalCard re-read the source message and adopt it before saving. At head, const AGENT_SAVE_RECORDS_SAVED_FLOW_ID: bool = false; pins the duplicate-flow outcome (count of 2). No saved_flow_id recording or card adoption change is evidenced in the change summary.
The pull request objectives also state that this pull request does not implement either fix. The coding requirements of both issues therefore remain unmet.
The whole-PR diff could not be read at head. The file read of the test and the change summary are the evidence used here.
Resolution
Implement the requirements of #8463 and #8460 in product code: (1) forward card-settling late sub-agent events in LateSubagentSink through the module projection; (2) record saved_flow_id on the parent thread's unsettled proposal from the agent-side save and make WorkflowProposalCard adopt a recorded saved_flow_id before saving. Then flip SUBAGENT_COMPLETED_REACHES_SOCKET and AGENT_SAVE_RECORDS_SAVED_FLOW_ID to true so the real assertions run. If this pull request is intended to remain test-only, unlink #8463 and #8460 as direct targets and link them as related. Their coding requirements then no longer apply to this pull request.

Require the proposal in the future live-completion assertion.
The test checks the proposal only in persisted thread messages. CompletionTarget::completed queues a summary containing [workflow_proposal], while the current LateSubagentSink drops completed events after chat_done. The existing false branch correctly pins that bug. When the completion fix is enabled, the test must also require the proposal marker and requested name in the delivered event.
