spacectl

A simple, read-only macOS terminal app to help you figure out what is taking up space on your disk.

Features

Installation

Requires Go 1.18+ and macOS.

make install

This will build the binary and move it to /usr/local/bin/spacectl.

Usage

Interactive Mode

Run with no arguments to scan your Home folder:

spacectl

Or explore a specific path:

spacectl explore /Applications

Controls:

  • j or ↓: Move selection down
  • k or ↑: Move selection up
  • enter: Enter the selected directory
  • backspace or esc: Go back to the parent directory
  • h: Jump to Home folder
  • /: Jump to Root (/)
  • r: Rescan the current folder
  • o: Open the selected item in Finder
  • q or ctrl+c: Quit

Command Line Mode

Show disk status summary:

spacectl status

List largest entries in a path:

spacectl list /var/log

Development

  • make build: Build the binary to bin/spacectl.
  • make run: Build and run the app.
  • make format: Format the code.
  • make vet: Vet the code.
  • make tidy: Tidy Go modules.
  • make clean: Remove build artifacts.
