Multiple Panels

Advanced History supports multiple independent chart panels on desktop.

Multiple panels require Statistics Graph Chart Card v4.02 or newer. Single-panel use remains available with supported older card versions. If the installed card does not support multiple panels, selecting Add panel shows a Home Assistant notification explaining the version requirement.

Add and switch panels

Select the Add panel button in the header to create a new tab. Select a tab name to switch panels. Double-click a tab name to rename it, or drag a tab horizontally to rearrange the tab order.

The Maximum tabs setting in Advanced History’s configuration controls how many desktop tabs can be open at once. It defaults to 10.

The tab strip uses all space available between the panel title and header actions. When the tabs no longer fit, left and right controls appear and scroll to complete tab boundaries. A newly added or selected tab is automatically brought fully into view.

Multiple renamed panels with independent Y1 and Y2 comparison targets

Each panel keeps its own:

  • selected and hidden targets;
  • loaded bookmark and unsaved-change state;
  • date and day time range;
  • Y1 and Y2 comparison counts and the shared comparison period;
  • comparison-banner visibility;
  • graph and entity settings;
  • panel-specific entity display names and running-total choices;
  • Auto, Fine or Manual detail mode and detail-banner visibility;
  • target-sidebar filters and open or closed state;
  • Undo and Redo stacks.

Panel tabs and their current charts are stored automatically in the browser. They are restored after leaving and returning to Advanced History, a page reload, a forced refresh, or a Home Assistant restart. There is no separate Save panel action.

Panel tabs are browser-local. They do not follow your Home Assistant user to another browser or device. Use Bookmarks for charts that you want to access elsewhere.

This automatic restore applies only while the tab remains open in Advanced History. Closing a tab removes that panel and it cannot later be restored as a panel. Save the chart as a Bookmark before closing the tab if you want to reopen it later. Bookmarks store the chart rather than the panel tab itself, so the bookmark can be opened in any current or newly created panel.

Close a panel

Select the close button in a tab to clear and remove that panel. If it contains a new unsaved chart or changes to a loaded bookmark, the normal unsaved-changes dialog appears first. Closing the dialog leaves the panel open; saving or clearing completes the close.

Closing a panel is permanent. The automatic panel restore does not recreate tabs that you deliberately close.

At least one panel remains available. A newly created panel receives a new identity and starts with an empty chart and empty Undo/Redo stacks.

Shared features

Bookmarks are synchronized per Home Assistant user and can be opened in any panel. Published bookmarks are available as read-only live aliases in the shared library, while administrators can also browse every user's bookmark library. A loaded alias checks for the owner's latest version when its panel is activated or Advanced History becomes active again.

Chart History remains one browser-local list shared by all panels. Clearing or replacing a chart from any panel adds it to that shared list. Undo and Redo are different: their stacks belong only to the panel where the changes were made.

Desktop / tablet only

Multiple panel tabs are available on wider desktop and tablet layouts. On mobile widths, Advanced History uses the normal single-panel layout. Availability follows the screen width, not the physical device type.
