PixelSlim is a high-performance desktop image optimizer built with a native Rust (Tauri v2) backend and a zero-dependency web frontend. It replaces heavy multi-hundred megabyte Electron-based utilities with a razor-sharp lightweight Universal standalone DMG that runs natively with minimal system resources.
Drop single images, multiple files, entire folder hierarchies, or paste screenshots directly from your clipboard to instantly compress and convert to WebP, PNG, JPEG, or SVG without losing visual fidelity.
- 100% Local & Offline: All compression and conversion algorithms execute strictly on your device using native Rust binaries.
- Zero Telemetry: No tracking, analytics, or background data collection.
- Zero Cloud Uploads: Your private photos, confidential designs, and screenshots never touch the internet.
- PNG Quantization: 8-bit adaptive palette quantization (
imagequant/pngquantengine) with Floyd-Steinberg dithering + multi-threadedoxipngDEFLATE optimization (50% to 75% file size reduction). - WebP Encoding: Native Google WebP encoder with lossy quality tuning and 100% lossless compression mode.
- JPEG Optimization: High-speed JPEG encoding with customizable quality scale.
- SVG Minification: Clean XML minification, stripping unnecessary metadata, comments, and whitespace.
- Smart Preset: Balanced 82% sweet-spot calibration for optimal web delivery and crisp visuals.
- Target Size Limiter: Specify an exact maximum size constraint in KB or MB with automated binary-search calibration.
- Max Dimension Resizing: High-fidelity Lanczos3 downscaling (1920px, 2560px, 1280px, 800px) with aspect-ratio preservation.
- Clipboard Instant Paste: Press Cmd + V anywhere to grab an image from your macOS clipboard and queue it immediately.
- Batch & Recursive Folder Discovery: Drop full directory trees; PixelSlim automatically discovers and processes all nested images.
- Non-Destructive Output: Output files next to original (with custom suffix like
-min) or route directly to a dedicated destination folder. - Quick Actions: One-click Reveal in Finder and Copy Image to Clipboard.
- Universal Architecture: One single installer runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs.
- 3-Way Theme Switcher: Automatic system appearance following, light mode, and dark mode.
- Custom Native Titlebar: Smooth macOS window dragging, traffic light controls, and responsive UI scaling.
- Auto-Update Checker: Built-in update verification querying GitHub Releases directly with one-click
.dmgdownloads.
