Explore now puts the food directly below the masthead and lets visitors choose a visual style that feels like their kitchen. The oversized subscription comparison and named “people behind the food” row are replaced by a compact benefits strip after the recipes and Sous Chef invitation.

Changes

• Add Zap Original, After Hours ’80s, Recipe Club ’90s, Recipe Box, Corner Diner, and Sunday Market. Each has distinct typography, colors, image framing, and light/dark palettes. Corner Diner pairs vanilla and turquoise with tomato accents and menu lettering; Sunday Market uses citrus, leaf, and berry colors with produce-label typography.
• Add a keyboard-accessible native “Choose your style” selector. Explicit selections are remembered on the device, synchronized across tabs, and independent of the app’s light/dark preference.
• Use the supporting line “Find your next recipe, save the ones you love, and share something from your kitchen.” Update the importer invitation to “Bring a favorite to the table.”
• Keep “Food. Friends. Freedom.” above the headline. Retain ordinary recipe, story, and post attribution.
• Present the existing free-reading, copy/print, and optional direct-tipping benefits in three short columns below the recipes and importer.
• Preserve the existing search, rotating editorial content, food stories, Fresh feed, recipe packs, and import eligibility/review flow.

Rendering

Cached runtime SSR remains csr=false / prerender=false, with the existing public cache policy. A small classic head script restores the local style before the body renders; it does not hydrate the app or personalize server responses. A narrow Vite setting emits this script as a hashed same-origin asset compatible with the current script policy. There are no new dependencies, cookies, tracking, or external asset requests.

Blocked storage still allows a style for the current visit. Without JavaScript, the complete page renders in Zap Original, follows the OS light/dark preference, and hides the unavailable picker.

Validation

• 123 focused tests pass across 15 files, including 14 tests for theme restoration, persistence, invalid values, blocked storage, cross-tab changes, and duplicate initialization.
• Typecheck: 0 errors, with 124 existing warnings.
• Production Cloudflare build passes; verified the emitted same-origin theme asset.
• 26 production-browser cases pass for the two new styles at 320, 375, 768, and 1440px in light/dark, an Original regression, and persistence/reload, native keyboard selection of all six options, cross-tab updates, denied storage, no-JavaScript light/dark, native search navigation, and CSS scoping checks. 8 final layout checks and 32 rotating-headline bounds checks also pass, including the compact Corner Diner headline on small phones.
• No horizontal overflow, broken fixture images, or page errors in the matrix. Sampled text contrast checks pass. Production responses preserve public, max-age=60, s-maxage=180; no Svelte app hydration requests were observed.
• Visually reviewed every desktop style and mobile retro variants. Browser content uses deterministic fixtures and repository food images; no fixture content is shipped.

Local verification used Node 24.22.1 and pnpm 9.12.1; the repository declares Node 22. Manual VoiceOver testing remains outstanding.
