fix(flows): guard unsaved workflow drafts across navigation - #8445
Protect unsaved workflow drafts when navigating through the sidebar, history, or other in-app routes—not just the editor's Back button.
Use React Router's existing data-router blocker, with a no-op fallback for isolated MemoryRouter component embeddings.
Route both in-app navigation and the editor's Back action through the existing discard confirmation; cancellation resets the pending transition.
Permit only a deliberate, successful Save/Accept navigation to bypass the guard, consuming the bypass on its next attempted route.
Add five focused integration tests covering production hash-router navigation, browser history, discard/stay, one-shot bypass, and successful save navigation.
Problem
The workflow editor already warns on hard page unload and when its own Back control is clicked. However, a user could navigate via another shell control or browser history while the graph was dirty, unmounting the draft without a warning. The existing comment assumes that HashRouter prevents route blocking, but the application now provides a data router.
Solution
Extract a small FlowNavigationBlocker component to contain useBlocker, avoid calling it under non-data-router test embeddings, and expose the pending proceed/reset actions to the editor's existing ConfirmDialog. The guard blocks pathname changes only when the draft is dirty; the editor consumes a one-shot bypass after a successful persisted transition. No backend, flow schema, or router configuration changes.
Submission Checklist
Tests added/updated: five route/confirmation regression cases in FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx.
Diff coverage ≥ 80%: CI Fast run #40554787001 measured 92% (35/38 changed executable lines covered) on head 9e2de3802ed5d69ea33affcdbabb69622c1c9bc5.
Coverage matrix: N/A — closes a navigation escape path in existing workflow editing.
No new network dependencies: only existing react-router-dom APIs.
Manual smoke checklist: N/A, no installer or release-cut changes.
Linked issue: N/A, no verified issue number.
Impact
Web and desktop workflow editing: navigating away from a dirty graph now requires confirmation. Save remains explicit, and existing persisted flows, RPCs, preauthorization, and hard-reload warnings are unchanged. The non-data-router fallback intentionally preserves isolated test embeddings.

Behavior Changes
Intended behavior change: block in-app route transitions away from a dirty workflow editor until the user confirms.
User-visible effect: existing unsaved-changes dialog now appears for sidebar/history navigation as well.
Parity Contract
Legacy behavior preserved: explicit Save/Discard, onUnload guard, editor Back confirmation, and existing flow RPCs.
Guard/fallback/dispatch parity: test router fallback; confirmed leave and cancelled leave; one-shot post-Save bypass; real hash data router.

Canonical PR: this contribution for the dirty-navigation guard.
The app now uses a data-enabled hash router. The flow editor blocks pathname changes while dirty and opens a leave confirmation. The confirmation can reset or proceed with blocked navigation. Selected successful save navigations bypass the guard.
App renders its existing shell through a hash router created by createAppHashRouter. The factory wraps the shell in an error boundary. Tests cover error recovery, and the architecture documentation describes the updated routing APIs.
The blocker runs under a data router. It blocks dirty navigation when the pathname changes, consumes a set bypass for one navigation attempt, and exposes proceed and reset actions.
Connect guard to editor actions app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsx
The editor connects blocked navigation to the leave confirmation. Cancel resets the blocked navigation; confirm proceeds with it or uses goBack. Selected successful save paths set the bypass flag before route replacement.
Verify route blocking and bypass app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx, app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.router.test.tsx
Tests cover blocked navigation and resuming with data and memory routers, browser-history navigation, later navigation after same-route navigation, and save-and-continue bypass.

Pull request purpose (title): fix(flows): guard unsaved workflow drafts across navigation. This PR guards unsaved workflow drafts across in-app navigation. It adds a `FlowNavigationBlocker` component that uses React Router's data-router blocker when available and no-ops otherwise, extracts the app's hash data router into a `createAppHashRouter` factory that wraps the shell in a Sentry error boundary, mounts it in `app/src/App.tsx` via `RouterProvider`, wires the blocker into the flow editor page with a one-shot bypass ref and the existing discard dialog, adds router-level, factory, and five integration tests, and updates the architecture docs. The description lane noted the impact section does not mention the new router factory or the duplicated Sentry boundary. No trusted push-delta comparison was available, so the latest-push delta is unavailable.

Completeness: Complete Test assessment: Test coverage is assessed from changed tests and lane evidence; execution is not claimed without trusted check data.
Features
Added — Route-level unsaved-draft navigation guard: Blocks in-app pathname changes away from a dirty flow editor by invoking a blocker callback, and exposes proceed/reset actions so the existing discard dialog can complete or cancel the pending transition. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.tsx)
Added — Non-data-router fallback: Renders null when no data-router context is available, preserving behavior for isolated MemoryRouter test embeddings where route blocking is unavailable. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.tsx)
Added — One-shot navigation bypass: A bypass flag set before a deliberate navigation is consumed on the next attempted transition and cleared regardless of outcome, so it cannot silently disable future guards. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.tsx, app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsxfunction FlowEditor({)
Added — Hash data router factory with Sentry recovery: Provides the data-router context the blocker requires while keeping hash URLs, and wraps the shell in a route-level Sentry error boundary so a route render error shows the existing Sentry-backed recovery screen instead of being caught before the outer App-level boundary. (app/src/lib/navigation/createAppHashRouter.tsx, app/src/App.tsxfunction App() {)
Modified — App shell mounts RouterProvider: The app now renders `RouterProvider` with a memoized router instead of `HashRouter`, with the provider chain retained inside navigation context through `AppRouterContent`. (app/src/App.tsxfunction App() {, app/src/lib/navigation/createAppHashRouter.tsx)
Modified — Discard dialog wired to pending transition: Cancel resets the blocked transition and confirm proceeds with it, so in-app navigation and the editor's Back action share one confirmation path. (app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsxfunction FlowEditor({)
Modified — Save paths set bypass before navigation: Successful draft, preauth, and save navigations set the bypass flag immediately before the replace navigation so a deliberate save does not trigger the discard prompt. (app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsxfunction FlowEditor({)
Modified — Updated unsaved-changes guard documentation: The page's comment now describes beforeunload plus the data-router blocker and local Back confirmation instead of claiming a HashRouter prevents route interception. (app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsxfunction FlowEditor({)
1 additional supported feature(s) omitted by the configured limit.
Tests
integration — Drives the production `createAppHashRouter` factory rather than a test-only memory router, asserting the pathname stays on the flow route while the discard dialog is shown, stays put on Stay, and moves to /chat on Discard.: The tests lane reported this test asserts real navigation outcomes (pathname stays put on Stay, moves to /chat on Discard) so it is not vacuous, and reported no reportable defect. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.router.test.tsx, app/src/lib/navigation/createAppHashRouter.tsx)
integration — Guards dirty editor navigation under a production hash data router, asserting the hash stays on the flow route until Discard and leave, then moves to the chat route.: Covered by the tests lane as driving the new routing guard; no issues reported in that lane. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx)
integration — Stops sidebar-like navigation until the user discards or stays, asserting the pathname is unchanged while blocked.: Covered by the tests lane as driving the new routing guard; no issues reported in that lane. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx)
integration — Blocks browser-history navigation to another route and releases it after Discard and leave.: Covered by the tests lane as driving the new routing guard; no issues reported in that lane. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx)
integration — Consumes a same-route bypass before a later unsaved navigation, asserting a subsequent navigation is still blocked.: Covered by the tests lane as exercising the bypass-reset logic; no issues reported in that lane. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx)
integration — Permits deliberate Save-and-navigate transitions without a discard prompt.: Covered by the tests lane as driving the new routing guard; no issues reported in that lane. (app/src/components/flows/canvas/FlowNavigationBlocker.test.tsx)
unit — Mounts the actual `createAppHashRouter` factory, throws from the route render, asserts the Sentry-backed recovery screen renders, then clicks recover and asserts the shell renders after the error clears.: The tests lane reported this test pins real behavior by mounting the actual factory and asserting recovery, and reported no reportable defect. (app/src/lib/navigation/createAppHashRouter.test.tsx, app/src/lib/navigation/createAppHashRouter.tsx)

Conclusion: Success
Scope reviewed: all assigned evidence
Positive: The tests lane reported the new test files pin real behavior across the factory recovery path and the blocker's router-location outcomes, and found no reportable defect in the diff; it noted it could not verify whether `FlowCanvasPage.test.tsx` (rendering under `MemoryRouter`, where the blocker returns null) still exercises the Back confirm/Discard path against the restructured `onConfirm`.
Lane summary: The new test files pin real behaviour: `createAppHashRouter.test.tsx` mounts the actual factory, throws from a route, and asserts the Sentry-backed recovery screen renders and recovers; the blocker tests assert the router location does not change while blocked and does change after Discard, for sidebar, history, same-route bypass, and save-bypass paths. I was unable to verify whether `FlowCanvasPage.test.tsx` (which renders under `MemoryRouter`, where the blocker returns null) still exercises the Back confirm/Discard path against the restructured `onConfirm`, and I was not shown the rest of the `FlowCanvasPage` save flow. No reportable defect in the diff surfaced. _The code index is behind this pull request (indexed at `03e62a25930d`), so retrieved context may be out of date._

Major · Keep the discard bypass from staying armed when Back does not… · FlowCanvasPage.tsx:1474-1481
app/src/pages/FlowCanvasPage.tsx:1474-1481 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift
Keep the discard bypass from staying armed when Back does not navigate.
The discard handler sets bypassRouteBlockRef.current = true before it calls goBack(). After Save replaces the initial history entry, goBack() calls navigate(-1) even when no earlier entry exists. In the browser-backed hash router, that call produces no location change. The blocker never runs its check, so the bypass is never cleared. The page stays mounted with the unsaved edits. The next navigation that the blocker checks, such as a sidebar link, consumes the stale bypass and proceeds without the discard prompt. Those edits are lost.
Any fix must keep the bypass armed through a /flows fallback navigation. If the bypass is cleared before navigate('/flows'), the blocker prompts a second time. Detecting the no-op depends on the active history mode.
