Expanded coverage for creating and cloning geologic time periods through the API, deleting newly created periods, and editing or deleting existing periods. These checks help verify that period management workflows behave as expected.
The test suite adds coverage for creating and cloning geologic time periods through the API, and for editing and deleting periods created through the API or directly in the database.
Changes: Geologic time period CRUD tests
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Creation and cloning tests specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_geologictimeperiod.py
Helpers build period payloads and database records. Tests check API creation and cloning, including persisted fields and distinct IDs.
Editing and deletion tests specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_geologictimeperiod.py
Tests check deletion of API-created and database-created periods, plus updates to a database-created period.
This test-only change is mergeable with follow-up coverage improvements: assert the saved period fields and consider testing an edit from a nonzero version. No production behavior failure was established.

Full details: Automatic Tests
Explanation
The PR adds automatic tests in test_geologictimeperiod.py. The Geologictimeperiod class extends ApiTests, and five new test_* methods cover add, clone, delete, edit, and deletion of existing records. The tests use API CRUD helpers and assertions.
Full details: Testing Instructions
Explanation
The pull request changes specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_geologictimeperiod.py and adds coverage for Geologictimeperiod API creation, cloning, deletion, editing, and deletion of pre-existing records. However, the pull request description contains only Fixes #8735; it gives no test command, affected test scope, or expected result. The testing instructions are therefore not clear or actionable.
Resolution
Add a Testing section to the pull request description. State that the backend Geologictimeperiod business-rule tests are covered, provide an executable command such as python -m pytest specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_geologictimeperiod.py, and state that all tests in the module must pass.

Assert the persisted period fields in the add and clone tests.
test_add_geologictimeperiod passes remarks, startperiod, endperiod and isbiostrat through _create_period. It does not assert them, so a change that drops these values from the saved row still passes.
test_clone_geologictimeperiod compares the clone with the original. Both objects are built from the same supplied values, so both can be None and still compare equal. Assert the literal values from the fixture after reloading the clone. Use assertIs for isbiostrat, because assertFalse also accepts None.

Update test_add_geologictimeperiod and test_clone_geologictimeperiod to reload
the saved period and clone from the database, then assert their remarks,
startperiod, endperiod, and isbiostrat against the fixture’s literal values; use
identity assertions for the boolean fields so None cannot pass as False.
Cover a nonzero starting version in the edit test.

Cover a nonzero starting version in the edit test.
test_edit_geologictimeperiod_created_in_previous_version starts from version 0 and expects version 1 after one edit. A change that always stores the version as 1 would also pass this test. An edit that starts at version 2 and expects version 3 checks the increment from a nonzero value.

@specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_geologictimeperiod.py at line 137:
Add a test alongside test_edit_geologictimeperiod_created_in_previous_version
that sets an existing period’s version to 2, edits it using version 2 as the
expected version, and verifies the updated name and version 3. Clean up the
created period using the existing test conventions.
