This adds read and write access to the weekly schedules on the gateway. Currently a Home Assistant user can only switch between schedules, they cannot see what a schedule contains or adjust the schedule itself.
This is the second half of #937, rebased onto v1.16.0 as requested. The preset temperatures from the first half were merged in #938 and #940.
Changes
The gateway entity gets schedules: per rule id the name, the active flag, the zones it is attached to, and its time slots ({"start": "mo 07:15", "end": "mo 16:30", "preset": "home"}). Start and end keep the gateway's own notation. The slots are sorted into week order, starting on Monday. A setpoint that is not a number is kept as text, so one bad slot does not stop the update.
set_schedule() replaces a schedule's slots and, optionally, renames it. create_schedule() and delete_schedule() add and remove schedules. Every write is checked before anything is sent:
Each slot needs a start and an end such as mo 07:00, and at least one setting.
Setpoints must lie between 4 and 30 °C, and the heating setpoint cannot be higher than the cooling setpoint.
A schedule needs at least one slot.
A name must be unused, cannot be off and cannot contain " or ]]>.
A rule id must be a full 32-character id.
Legacy gateways raise PlugwiseError for all three writes.
Switching a schedule on now activates it (bug fix). set_schedule_state() only attached the zone. On my Adam a schedule does not run unless its rule is active, so choosing an inactive schedule did nothing, while the zone was still reported as following it. Switching on now also sends <active>true</active>, including for a schedule that is already attached but inactive. Switching on an attached schedule no longer adds its zone a second time, and switching off a schedule the zone is not attached to no longer raises ValueError.
Gateway behaviour
Measured on my Adam, firmware 3.12.6, with test rules attached to no zone or to a zone at 5-6 °C:
A PUT to /core/rules;id=… that carries <directives> replaces the whole directive set. A PUT without <directives> keeps them. set_schedule() therefore always sends the complete set.
Schedules accept gaps and overlapping slots. With overlapping slots, the slot that starts latest wins. A malformed time gets HTTP 400 and changes nothing.
POST /core/rules creates a schedule, inactive and attached to no zone. DELETE /core/rules;id=… removes one.
Switching a running schedule off, or deleting it, leaves the zone at its last setpoint.
Tests
New tests for reading, every write and every refused input, the legacy refusal, and the switching fixes; coverage stays at 100%.
tests/data/*/*.json and fixtures/*/data.json gain the schedules key. The expected schedules were computed from each fixture's XML by a separate parser when Add preset temperatures and weekly schedules for Adam zones #937 was written, and userdata/ has not changed since.
mypy, ruff, pylint and the other pre-commit hooks pass.
Running in Home Assistant
A test Home Assistant (2026.10.2) runs this branch with my earlier plugwise-beta branch, connected to my Adam. Each schedule shows up as a read-only calendar, and the plugwise-beta branch has actions to get, set, create and delete schedules. Through those actions I created a schedule, read it back, changed one day, renamed it and deleted it, and each change reached the gateway. The library refused a name that was already taken, the name off and a name with ", and the schedule on the gateway stayed unchanged. I did not attach the test schedules to a zone.
I will port the plugwise-beta branch to its current main and open a PR there once this is in a release.

New Features
View weekly heating schedules, including names, active status, assigned zones, and time slots.
Create, update, rename, and delete schedules on supported gateways. New schedules start inactive and unattached.
Bug Fixes
Switching a schedule on or off now targets the intended schedule rather than another rule with the same name.
Enabling an inactive schedule activates it without adding an already-assigned zone again.
Names belonging only to another schedule are rejected on current and legacy gateways.
Documentation
Added guidance on schedule behavior and available operations.
Schedules are keyed by rule id. Slot start and end times keep the
gateway's notation, such as "mo 07:15". A slot without a readable start
is sorted last. A setpoint that is not a number is kept as text.
Add set_schedule, create_schedule and delete_schedule. Each slot needs a
day and time for its start and end, and at least one setting with valid
keys. Setpoints must lie between 4 and 30 °C, with the heating setpoint
no higher than the cooling setpoint. A schedule needs at least one slot.
A name must be unused, cannot be "off" and cannot contain '"' or "]]>".
A renamed schedule can be switched on by its new name. Legacy gateways
raise PlugwiseError for all three.
Switching a schedule on puts <active>true</active> in the rule it sends,
and no longer returns early when the rule is inactive. The zone context
is added only when the zone is not attached yet, and removed only when
it is.

Walkthrough
The change adds weekly schedule data to gateway entities and introduces operations to create, replace, and delete schedules. It updates schedule parsing, activation, zone-context handling, and legacy-gateway behavior. Fixtures and tests cover schedules across Adam and Anna setups.
Gateway schedule rules are represented by records with names, active states, zones, and weekly slots. The parser orders slots by weekday and start time. Fixtures and tests cover schedules across Adam and Anna setups.
Create, replace, and delete schedules plugwise/smile.py, plugwise/__init__.py, tests/test_init.py
The public API adds operations to replace, create, and delete schedules. The implementation validates schedule details, sends gateway rule requests, and updates local state after successful writes.
Activation selects schedule rules, updates active state, and avoids duplicate zone-context changes. Legacy gateways reject schedule writes and resolve activation only for the legacy schedule name.

Not sure if we did that before, but we shouldn't need the prefix here, i.e. PlugwiseError itself induces it being Plugwise if we already have that lets not add it in this PR and create a cleanup PR

From my recent testing, a new schedule is added with active set to true.
And from observation, active always stays set to true.
This is on an Adam with fw. 3.12.6
Switching a schedule on or off selects the rule that carries the schedule
template, and on a legacy gateway the rule named Thermostat schedule. A
name that no schedule rule carries is refused.
A new or renamed name is now checked against every rule on the gateway,
and a blank name, off and None are refused.

create_schedule() posts the rule but does not update _domain_objects. A second immediate call with the same name therefore passes _schedule_name() and issues another create request. Name-based activation returns the first matching rule, so duplicate names cannot be distinguished.

Move cached schedule states when a schedule is renamed.
set_schedule() renames the rule but leaves the cached state under the old name. Rename A to B, turn B off, rename B back to A, then turn A on, all before the next poll. The cache still holds A: "on", and the rule's local active element is still "true". The guard in set_schedule_state() then returns without reattaching the zone, so the zone stays detached and the on request is lost until the next poll.
Move the cached state to the new name when the rename succeeds:

Update the successful rename path in set_schedule() to move the cached state

Clear deleted schedule state before switching a duplicate name.
delete_schedule() removes the rule but leaves its name in _schedule_old_states. If the remaining same-name rule is active but not attached, set_schedule_state(..., state="on") can return early because the stale cache says "on". The PUT that adds the zone context is then skipped.

Update delete_schedule to clear the deleted rule’s name from each state map in

- Reading a schedule rule now goes through _schedule_slot and
_slot_settings, so _schedule_rules builds a slot in one call instead
of in two inline loops.
- Serialising a slot now goes through _check_slot and _slot_attrs, so
the checks on a slot's start, end, setpoints and keys sit in one
function and the attribute building keeps the missing-setting check.
Neither change alters what _schedule_rules and _schedule_directives
return.

Refresh the cached rules after creating a schedule.
_schedule_name checks only self._domain_objects. A successful POST does not update this collection, and the public wrapper does not refresh it. Two sequential calls with the same name can therefore both pass validation and create duplicate schedules.

Keep non-finite setpoints as text.
If the gateway returns NaN or Infinity, float(value) succeeds and publishes a non-finite float instead of the original text. Strict JSON serialization then fails. (docs.python.org)
Use math.isfinite() before replacing the original value.
