Updates product name references to "OpenAB Computer" after the rename from instance-mcp.

Changes:

  • README.md: the macmini node label in the architecture diagram, the hands-node registry picker text, and the profile ceiling sentence now say "OpenAB Computer".
  • docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md: prose references to instance-mcp now say "OpenAB Computer".

Commands, paths, config keys, and binary names (for example oab-instance-mcp) are unchanged. docs/adr/multi-computer.md is a historical record and is not edited.

Refs openabdev/openab-computer#63

Discord Discussion URL: Not applicable - maintainer-filed rename docs step tracked in openabdev/openab-computer#63.

Files changed:
- README.md: the macmini node label in the architecture diagram (line 40),
the hands-node registry picker text (line 112), and the profile ceiling
sentence in the allowlist section (line 255) now say "OpenAB Computer".
No GitHub link to openabdev/instance-mcp exists in this file, so no
  link text changed.
- docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md: the product name
  "instance-mcp" in prose (lines 99, 146, 154, 249, 254) now says
"OpenAB Computer", including "In OpenAB Computer `main`" (line 249).

Not changed: commands, paths, config keys and binary names such as
oab-instance-mcp, ~/.config/oab-instance-mcp, and poc/pw-mcp paths.
docs/adr/multi-computer.md is a historical record and was not edited.

Checked: git diff showed only the lines above before staging. grep for
instance-mcp in README.md returns no matches. grep for github.com/openabdev
in README.md returns no matches. Markdown only; no build or tests apply.

Note

LGTM ✅ - Every changed line is product-name prose that now says OpenAB Computer, while the executable, config paths, Mermaid node ids and docs/adr stay unchanged, as the rename decision requires.

What This PR Does

The instance-mcp repository was renamed to openabdev/openab-computer, with the product name "OpenAB Computer". This PR updates the product-name prose in README.md and docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md to the new name and leaves commands, config paths, identifiers and historical ADRs alone.

How It Works

One commit makes 8 one-line substitutions of instance-mcp with OpenAB Computer. Three are in README.md: the macmini node label in the Mermaid diagram, the hands-node registry picker bullet, and the profile-ceiling sentence. Five are in the reference architecture doc: the Playwright MCP component row, the desktop browser set sentence, the Playwright install sentence, and two bullets under "Limits of this reference". The binary name oab-instance-mcp, the ~/.config/oab-instance-mcp/... paths, the Mermaid node id imcp and ToolProfile.desktopBrowserTools are unchanged.

Findings

# Severity Finding Location
F1 🟢 Product-name prose is renamed consistently, with no leftover old product prose outside docs/adr README.md:40, docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:99
F2 🟢 Executable name, config paths, Mermaid node ids and Swift identifiers are preserved docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:155-171
F3 🟢 docs/adr is untouched, so the historical record keeps its original wording docs/adr/multi-computer.md
F4 🟢 No stale openabdev/instance-mcp repository URL remains in the tree README.md:200-201, Cargo.toml:6
F5 🟢 The rewritten cross-repo reference to issue #45 still resolves after the rename docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:254-255
Finding Details

🟢 F1: Product-name prose is renamed consistently

The changed lines are README.md:40, :112, :255 and docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:99, :146, :154, :249, :254. Each now says OpenAB Computer where it names the product or repository. A search at the head for instance-mcp that is not part of oab-instance-mcp, excluding docs/adr and Cargo.lock, returns no matches, so no old product prose was missed. (Reviewer A, Reviewer B; re-verified.)

🟢 F2: Operational identifiers are preserved

The executable is still oab-instance-mcp (for example docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:98, :155, :158) and config paths stay under ~/.config/oab-instance-mcp/ (lines 158, 161, 171). In README.md:40 only the label text changed; the node id imcp and its edges are unchanged, so the diagram still renders. ToolProfile.desktopBrowserTools and the repo-relative paths poc/pw-mcp, poc/pw-mcp/install.sh and poc/reverse-attach-linux are unchanged. The result is a clear split: "OpenAB Computer" names the product, and oab-instance-mcp names the command you run. (Reviewer A, Reviewer B; re-verified.)

🟢 F3: docs/adr unchanged

git diff --name-only <merge-base> <head> -- docs/adr is empty. The ADR keeps its historical instance-mcp wording, as the PR body states. (Reviewer A, Reviewer B; re-verified.)

🟢 F4: No stale repository URL

No openabdev/instance-mcp URL exists at the head outside docs/adr. The only repository URLs point at openabdev/openab-sb (Cargo.toml:6, README.md:200-201), which belong to this repository and correctly stay unchanged. (Reviewer A, Reviewer B; re-verified.)

🟢 F5: Cross-repo issue reference resolves

docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:254-255 says OpenAB Computer tracks a narrower browser tier in its #45. openabdev/openab-computer issue #45 exists and is open ("sandbox profile is not a boundary: GUI control is a shell"), so the reference survived the repository transfer. (Reviewer B; re-verified.)

Baseline Check
  • PR opened: 2026-10-29
  • Head SHA: 0ddcbd9836959993bef358de77ebc677ed28274c (branch docs/rename-to-openab-computer)
  • Base branch: main (default branch, not a stacked PR)
  • Merge-base: e6125c3d3225bdefb750040960492ce113f9d906
  • Diff stat: README.md 6 lines (3+/3-), docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md 10 lines (5+/5-); 2 files changed, 8 insertions, 8 deletions
  • Main already has: the same docs, with instance-mcp as the product name
  • Net-new value: product-name prose that matches the renamed repository openabdev/openab-computer
What's Good (🟢)
  • The diff is small and mechanical, and each change can be checked against the rename decision on its own line.
  • The rename stays in prose and does not leak into executable, config or identifier names.
  • The PR body states the rename boundary (binary and config names unchanged, ADR not edited).
  • Mermaid node ids were left alone, so the label change carries no rendering risk.

Non-blocking observations (not findings, no change required)

  • The new prose "in OpenAB Computer" (docs/reference-architecture-muse-home-browser.md:99, :154) names the repository without linking it. A link to https://github.com/openabdev/openab-computer would help readers find poc/pw-mcp. The old text had no link either, so this is outside the rename scope.
  • The PR description references openabdev/instance-mcp#63, which GitHub redirects to openabdev/openab-computer#63. This is PR metadata, not file content.

5. Three Reasons We Might Not Need This PR

  1. The change is terminology-only - It fixes naming, not broken links. GitHub redirects the old repository name, and the old text contained no URL that could break.
  2. Mixed names could confuse readers - Prose now says "OpenAB Computer" next to commands and paths that still say oab-instance-mcp, which may read as inconsistent until the binary is renamed, if it ever is.
  3. It could be folded into a later docs pass - A future change, such as linking the repository or the browser-profile work in #45, would touch the same lines and could make the rename together with other prose updates.

Each reason is answerable. "OpenAB Computer" is now the public name, and keeping current, non-historical prose consistent with it costs one small, low-risk diff.
