feat(flagd-core): validate flag configs against the flagd JSON schema - #471
Adds JSON schema validation of flag configurations to openfeature-flagd-core, matching the Go, Java, JS and .NET cores.
Bundles flags.json and targeting.json from open-feature/schemas, with a poe sync-schemas task to refresh them
Validates each configuration on load, after $evaluators are resolved
On failure, logs a warning listing the violations and still applies the config, so one bad flag doesn't block the rest
Adds jsonschema as a dependency
Notes
Schemas are committed copies, since uv_build doesn't support build hooks yet. A test fails if they drift from the submodule.
flags.json has a top-level $ref, and draft-07 ignores its sibling $id. So schemas are registered by the $id in each file, which lets ./targeting.json resolve.
This review ran on the open-source allowance, not this organization's plan, because the pull request author doesn't have an assigned seat. Waiting won't change this — ask an organization admin to assign them a seat, or add seats in Billing if every seat is already assigned, then retry.
The pull request adds bundled flagd schemas and validation for flag configurations. Flag updates log schema violations as warnings and continue processing. It also adds a script and project task to sync schemas from the schemas submodule.

Adds flag and targeting schemas, a cached validator that reports sorted path-and-message errors, and a script and task for syncing schemas. Tests compare bundled schemas with upstream schemas and check valid and invalid configurations.
Validate flag updates tools/openfeature-flagd-core/src/openfeature/contrib/tools/flagd/core/model/flag_store.py, tools/openfeature-flagd-core/tests/test_schema_validation.py
FlagStore.update validates configurations, using evaluator-expanded flags when applicable. It logs validation errors as warnings and continues processing. Tests check warning behavior and flag resolution.

The change is mergeable with bounded follow-up: schema warnings have several accuracy gaps, and invalid flags can expose configuration values in application logs. Redacting warning content is advisable before deployment where configurations contain sensitive values.

Explanation
Issue #470 requires bundled flagd schemas, validation on each configuration load, and warning-only failures that still apply the configuration. The PR adds committed flags.json and targeting.json, validates after evaluator resolution in FlagStore.update, logs validation violations as a warning, and preserves the update flow. Tests cover valid and invalid configurations, evaluator references, warning behavior, and continued resolution of valid flags. Strict mode is outside issue #470 scope.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The dependency, schema files, sync_schemas.py, sync-schemas task, validation helper, and tests directly support issue #470. No unrelated implementation is established by the supplied whole-PR summary. The ignored uv.lock file is not needed to assess this scope.

Apply the $flagd.* restriction to the array form of var.
The array form of var accepts any string key, including $flagd.unknown. The direct string form rejects that key. Only flagKey and timestamp are injected into $flagd, so the array form skips the schema warning for an unusable lookup. Apply the same restriction in the upstream schema, because schemas/ is synced from open-feature/schemas.

Align the bundled metadata schema with the empty-key runtime check.
The bundled metadata definition (schemas/flags.json, lines 284-290) has no propertyNames constraint. A configuration with the key "" passes schema validation without a warning. FlagStore.update then raises ParseError. Fix the schema upstream, or add the check in validate_flag_configuration, because schema.py says the local copies are refreshed from upstream.

Logging (flag_store.py): fixed in 2b23ee6. Warnings now only include the path and the failing schema keyword, never flag values.
Schema comments (flags.json / targeting.json): these files are verbatim copies of open-feature/schemas, kept in sync by a test so every flagd core validates against the same schema. Changes to the schema itself should go upstream rather than diverge here, so I'm leaving them out of this PR.
Hi @toddbaert, this is ready for review whenever you have time.
Could you also approve the workflow run so CI can run?
