I'm Michael, team lead and senior engineer at Fraunhofer ISST in Dortmund. My group develops digital health applications, and my own research deals mainly with machine learning on biosignals and with emergency response systems for private homes.
I studied computer science at TU Dortmund and came to Fraunhofer ISST as a research associate in 2016. Since 2022 I have led the group, and I am working on a doctorate in health sciences (Dr. rer. medic.) at Witten/Herdecke University.
My main topic at the moment is smart home emergency response. For my doctoral thesis I am designing a system that recognizes emergencies in private homes automatically, alerts the rescue services and passes structured information on to the responders.
We study which sensors people accept in their own homes and how data from different sources can be combined and shared while the responders are still on their way. People with disabilities and their caregivers are involved from requirements elicitation onwards, and our user studies look at acceptance and perceived safety.
