Read the page param in product listing loaders - #82
Conversation
The pagination links add ?page=N but the products, category and collection loaders never read it, so every page showed the first 50 products. Fixes lambda-curry#62

Pagination parameter helper apps/storefront/libs/util/server/products.server.ts |
Adds a default page size of 50. The helper parses the page parameter and calculates an offset for integer page values greater than 1. |
Route pagination wiring apps/storefront/app/routes/products._index.tsx, apps/storefront/app/routes/categories.$categoryHandle.tsx, apps/storefront/app/routes/collections.$collectionHandle.tsx |
Each loader passes request-derived pagination parameters to fetchProducts. |

A malformed page URL can show a later product page, but the issue is limited to invalid page values. The change is otherwise ready with this bounded follow-up.

Pagination preserves the existing category, collection, and region selection behavior without adding privileges. Arbitrary page values can create cache misses and eviction pressure, but cached entries are bounded. Backend resource limits and concurrent cache-fill behavior remain unverified.
Retained concerns
- Low · security · inferred: Public page values now select arbitrarily many distinct product-cache keys, allowing repeated cold fills and eviction pressure on the shared SDK cache. The 1,000-entry capacity bounds retention; backend exhaustion and deployment-wide availability impact remain unverified.
Security review details
-
Security Blast Radius
- inferred — The supported exposure is request-driven product fetching and pressure on the storefront's shared SDK cache. Evidence does not establish exposure across tenants, environments, or deployed instances.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
- inferred — A caller can vary positive page values to select distinct cache keys and trigger fresh product-list requests. This supports cache-pressure risk, not a verified backend denial of service.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
- observed — Pagination does not replace route-resolved category or collection IDs, and the fetcher continues supplying the selected region. The changed flow adds query selection rather than a new privileged operation.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
- observed — The shared cache has a 1,000-entry capacity, and product fetching configures a ten-second TTL with one-hour stale-while-revalidate. Concurrent fill, failed-fill cleanup, and exact expiry semantics depend on unavailable dependency implementation evidence.
Hardening Proposals
- proposed — Consider validating safe page and offset arithmetic and aligning accepted pagination ranges with verified backend limits. Evaluate admission controls for out-of-catalogue cache entries without restricting legitimate catalogue navigation.

preserving the existing fallback to offset zero and guarding against unsafe

Number.parseInt read a numeric prefix, so ?page=2abc was treated as page 2. The helper now requires the value to be digits only and falls back to the first page for anything else, or when the offset would not be a safe integer. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Thanks @theluckystrike, and sorry this sat for a few weeks! The bug was real: every page past the first showed page 1 again, and your fix is solid. The digit check and the safe-integer guard on the offset are both good additions. Before merging I pushed two small commits to your branch:
I checked it locally with the page size lowered to 3: |

@dwene, thanks for merging #82. I'm glad the page parameter fix checked out on all three routes, and I appreciate you handling the upgrade conflict and correcting the category and collection links.

Fixes #62.
The pagination links on
/products,/categories/:handleand/collections/:handlepoint to?page=N, but none of the three loaders read that param. Every page asked Medusa for the default first 50 products, so page 2 and later showed the same products as page 1, and the pagination control stayed on page 1 because it derives the current page fromoffset / limit.Changes
libs/util/server/products.server.tsgets a smallgetProductsPaginationParams(request)helper. It readspagefrom the request URL and returns{ limit, offset }. The limit is 50, the store API default, so the page size doesn't change.pagevalues fall back to the first page.fetchProducts. The cache key already includes the query, so each page gets its own cache entry.Testing
