scalo 2.14.18 builds the Kafka transport with no broker reachable. Auto-discovery with a topic refresh starts subscribed to nothing and subscribes on the first refresh that lists the topics, and explicit topics need no broker at build time. A loader started before its broker therefore never fails a transport start, so the assertions that counted a transport_start retry measured a path that does not run. Both broker-startup tests keep what they prove: the loader stays up without its broker, and in the integration test it ingests once the broker arrives. The unit test that forced a retry with an unknown librdkafka property is removed, because an unknown property is a config error that should fail fast, not be retried.
webpki-roots 0.26.11 is a shim whose only item is a re-export of webpki-roots 1.x TLS_SERVER_ROOTS. Cargo.lock resolves that 1.x to 1.0.10, the release that removes the emSign root, so the roots the loader trusts are the fixed set. The shim comes from the clickhouse fork at rev 6f9acd96, which is a normal dependency, and no fork branch or feature set drops it. The ignore goes when the clickhouse dependency moves to webpki-roots 1.x under dfe-loader #133.
queued_dead_letters_are_tracked_until_taken compared MemoryGuard::current_bytes before and after queueing 8 bytes. current_bytes is the process usage estimate, so anything else the test process allocated between the two reads moved it too, and a CI run saw it move by 4780024 bytes instead of 8. queue_dead_letters and take_queued_dead_letters change the guard through add_bytes and release, which reserved_bytes reports exactly, so the test now reads that.
