addRoute rejects ^, $ and look-arounds in a regex constraint, but not \b and \B, and they likely should also be rejected for the same reason. e.g.:

import { addRoute, createRouter, findRoute } from 'rou3'

const router = createRouter()
addRoute(router, 'GET', '/é:slug(\\bfoo)', { ok: 1 })
addRoute(router, 'GET', '/a-:slug(\\bfoo)', { ok: 2 })

findRoute(router, 'GET', '/%C3%A9foo') // undefined: `9` then `f` is no word boundary
findRoute(router, 'GET', '/a-foo') // matches

addRoute(createRouter(), 'GET', '/a-:slug(^foo)', {}) // throws

context is nuxt/nuxt#36671, where a bot review pointed out that a route rule like /é:slug(\bfoo) would never apply.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Route constraints now reject \b and \B outside character classes, avoiding mismatches with percent-encoded characters. These escapes remain valid inside character classes, where \b represents a backspace.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified that anchors, look-around assertions, numbered backreferences, and word-boundary assertions are rejected in constraints.

Walkthrough

The constraint validator now rewrites escaped \b and \B as ^ during validation. Documentation and route tests describe rejected assertions outside character classes and accepted character-class cases.

Changes: Regex constraint validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Validation rule and documentation
.agents/syntax.md, docs/reference.md, src/_pattern.ts, src/operations/add.ts
checkConstraints rewrites escaped b and B to ^. Documentation describes rejected word-boundary assertions outside character classes and the valid character-class interpretation.
Route cases and bundle limits
test/_regexp-cases.ts, test/regexp.test.ts, test/bench/bundle.test.ts
Route fixtures cover rejected and accepted word-boundary cases. Bundle-size comments and limits account for the added case.

A rabbit checks each pattern’s trail,
Where \b and \B may fail.
In brackets, backspace keeps its place,
Tests trace each route through every case.
The bundle grows by bytes, not leaps,
Then bunny hops away to sleep.

Remove the stale accepted-syntax claim.

This line says constraints accept \b and \B, but the new validator rejects them. Update the accepted list so it agrees with Line 58.

Keep regExpToRoute consistent with this rejection.

regExpToRoute(/^\/(?<x>\bfoo)\/?$/) still returns /:x(\bfoo), but addRoute and routeToRegExp now reject that result. In src/regexp/regexp-to-route.ts, constraint preserves the boundary without validating it. Reject these assertions there too, while retaining escaped backslashes and class escapes.
