Release hygiene: publish images with each release and state which Substrate release AX works with #487

Open

Description

@mayawang

Problem

Getting a working AX install today means building images and pairing versions by reading both codebases:

Ask

  • Publish ax-server and ax-task-runner images for each release, referenced by digest in the install manifests.
  • Add a compatibility table to the installation docs (linked from the README and CONTRIBUTING): AX release to Substrate release.
  • Cut AX releases against Substrate releases, and tag a release whenever the CLI and server stop matching.

    I'd like to take the compatibility table and version-pinned installation docs. @mayawang, could you assign that part to me and confirm how I should submit the patch while PR creation is restricted?

    Thanks @rich7420, assigned to you. PRs are limited to collaborators until the current Substrate changes land (see #448). In the meantime, push a branch to your fork and link it here, and we'll open the PR from it with your commits.
