Summary

Adds the update-docs Claude Code skill (/update-docs). It writes, refreshes, reviews and restructures Glific docs. It checks the live production Glific app through a read-only playwright-cli browser session that redacts personal data from screenshots. It replaces the old documentation skill.

Skill: .claude/skills/update-docs/

  • scripts/gdocs.mjs has no dependencies and does the following:
    • preflight checks the env vars, the CLI, the browser launch, a guard canary (a test write that must be blocked), a redaction self-test, and the login.
    • It manages a single guarded session.
    • shot takes redacted screenshots and records their hashes in a manifest.
    • blocked lists write requests the guard stopped.
    • lint checks image provenance, /img/ refs and .md links.
  • Network guard:
    • It is installed before login.
    • It blocks every GraphQL mutation or subscription, and the queries that take edit locks (flowGet, flowRelease, simulatorGet, simulatorRelease).
    • It also blocks every other POST, PUT, PATCH or DELETE to the Glific host.
  • scripts/pw-guard-hook.sh (Bash pre/post hooks):
    • Direct playwright-cli calls must use the guarded session and an allow-listed set of commands.
    • When a write is blocked, the hook warns Claude so it stops and tells the user.
  • Workflow guides for refresh, new page, review and restructure, plus browsing.md and safety.md.

Style guides moved over from the old documentation skill

  • sections, style-writing, style-page and style-images now live in update-docs, and .claude/skills/documentation/ is removed.
  • The header guidance now matches the <table> block with Last Updated that most pages use.
  • The image guide requires gdocs shot and adds rules for framing and keeping filenames stable.
  • The refresh workflow accepts a glific-frontend PR as input.

Other

  • .gitignore: ignore .playwright-cli/ (session output, snapshots, redaction manifest).

Notes

  • This replaces Add Messages Overview tab to Data Analytics docs #684, which also included a Data Analytics page change. That change is reverted on this branch (ff469fe, then c6d7397), so the diff against main contains only the skill.
  • How it was tested: the skill ran end to end in a cloud session.
    • Preflight passed.
    • The guard blocked writes, including one the app sends on its own (marking messages as read).
    • Lint passed.
    • Screenshots came out redacted.
  • Environment requirements: GLIFIC_URL, GLIFIC_PHONE, GLIFIC_PASSWORD, playwright-cli with a matching Chromium, and moonshine.projecttech4dev.org in the allowed domains so the analytics dashboard loads.

/update-docs writes, refreshes, reviews and restructures docs against the
live Glific app from a cloud env with playwright-cli preinstalled.

- gdocs.mjs (zero-dep): preflight (env, CLI, browser, guard canary,
redaction self-test, login), guarded session, redacted screenshots,
  blocked-write log, provenance/link lint
- Network guard blocks mutations, lock-taking queries (flowGet,
simulatorGet) and non-GET REST writes before login
- Bash hooks restrict direct playwright-cli use to the guarded session
and surface blocked writes so Claude stops and warns

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Move sections, style-writing, style-page and style-images into
update-docs and remove the old documentation skill.

- Header guidance now matches the <h3><table> block with Last Updated
that most pages use, instead of the legacy ###** badge
- Image guide requires gdocs shot; adds framing and filename-stability rules
- Sections: _category_.json generated-index (not index.md), more routes
- Refresh workflow accepts a glific-frontend PR as input

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Document the new Messages Overview tab (Messages Exchanged card,
service message billing notice, Message Composition chart) and
replace the intro screenshot with one showing all four tabs.

📝 Walkthrough

The pull request replaces the former documentation skill with an update-docs skill and supporting workflows and authoring guidance. It adds Bash hooks and a browser wrapper for guarded production browsing, screenshot redaction and checks, blocked-attempt reporting, and documentation linting. It also adds Playwright CLI configuration and ignores local Playwright output.

The guard now lets flowGet (without isForced) and flowRelease through so
the flow editor can be documented. Everything else stays blocked:
Take Over (flowGet isForced), simulatorGet/Release, all mutations and
autosaved revisions. Allowed lock events are logged separately from
blocked ones; gdocs blocked flags a held lock and gdocs stop releases it
by loading the flow list. safety.md gains flow editor rules.

flowGet with isForced (Take Over) now passes the guard and is logged as
"allowed ... TAKE OVER". safety.md requires asking the user, naming the
flow, before using it, and listing every Take Over in the summary.
Mutations, revisions and the simulator stay blocked.

Describe the allowed write exception in the guard summary.

The table says the guard blocks every write request. Line 24 documents that flowGet can take a server-side edit lock. Say that the guard blocks non-allowlisted writes and identify the lock exception. The glific-browser.mjs request filter also handles explicitly allowlisted requests.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Use a separate report when the agent stops before acting.

The protocol also applies when the agent notices it was about to change data. In that case, the template incorrectly says the action was tried and blocked. Give separate wording for a blocked request and an action stopped before it was sent.

Remove direct eval access from the browser hook.

eval executes arbitrary JavaScript in the logged-in page. The network guard allows non-mutation GET requests to third-party hosts, so an eval expression can send page-visible contact data or credentials to an external host. This bypasses the intended wrapper boundary.

Invocation detection fails open for quoted and path-qualified calls.

The grep pattern recognizes playwright-cli only after ^, `; & | ( ``, or one of the listed keywords. The hook does not detect these forms, and each one passes:

  • bash -c "playwright-cli -s=glific-docs run-code --filename=x.js". Here the character before playwright-cli is ".
  • /usr/local/bin/playwright-cli -s=glific-docs run-code .... Here the character before it is /.
  • p=playwright-cli; $p -s=glific-docs run-code .... The assignment matches, but the extracted invocation has no subcommand, so the loop runs continue.

On the logged-in glific-docs session, run-code can call page.context().unrouteAll(), which removes the read-only guard. This hook is a safety boundary, so it must fail closed. Treat any playwright-cli token that is not part of a longer identifier as an invocation. Accept the false positive for grep "playwright-cli open". Also deny any command that references playwright-cli without invoking it directly, such as a variable assignment.

Remove ignoreHTTPSErrors: true from the production session.

This session submits GLIFIC_PASSWORD to a production Glific host. With ignoreHTTPSErrors: true, Chromium accepts any certificate. An intercepting proxy on the cloud network can then read the credentials and session tokens without a TLS warning. Production Glific hosts have valid certificates, so this setting is not needed. If a local or staging host needs the setting, enable it only for that host.

Serialize blocked-log updates and keep the cookie as the durable source

record performs an asynchronous cookie read-modify-write without serialization. Parallel blocked requests can read the same cookie, then the last write can erase another entry. list.slice(-8) also lets eight passive entries evict an active entry. blocked --quiet then returns 0, so the post hook does not report the blocked action.

Closure memory alone is not a durable fix. blocked --ack runs in a separate CLI invocation and only clears the cookie. It cannot clear a logs object captured by the guard callback. A later request can rewrite the stale entry. A newly installed guard also starts with empty closure state and can overwrite existing cookie entries.

Use the cookie as the source of truth, serialize each cookie's read-modify-write operation, and remove passive entries before active entries when applying the limit. If an in-memory cache is retained, initialize it from the cookie and make --ack clear it through the same guard-owned operation.

Update record to serialize each cookie’s read-modify-write operation and keep

passive entries before active ones; if retaining an in-memory cache, initialize

Make the provenance lint fail when the branch diff cannot be computed.

gitLines returns [] when git diff main...HEAD fails. The command fails when no local main ref exists, which is common in fresh single-branch clones and in cloud checkouts. In that case the lint does not check images that are already committed on the branch. It then reports [PASS] lint, so an unredacted image committed before lint runs passes the provenance check. Fall back to origin/main. If no base ref resolves, fail.

Update lint to resolve a usable base ref by checking main and then origin/main
before collecting committed changes. If neither resolves, report lint failure
and return a nonzero result; otherwise use the resolved base in the three-dot
diff so a failed diff cannot silently omit committed images.

1. **Never change anything in Glific.** Only look and take screenshots. A network guard blocks writes. If the guard trips, **stop at once and warn the user** (see [safety.md](safety.md)).

Allow the confirmed Take Over exception in the entry-point rules.

These lines prohibit all changes and all state-changing buttons. Take Over changes the flow editor lock, but safety.md Line 53 and browsing.md Line 71 allow it after user approval. State that narrow exception here so the skill does not contradict its linked workflow.

Skip production preflight when the user declines a live check.

Step 0 requires preflight before classification, and Line 26 says preflight logs in to Glific. Step 1 marks browser use optional for review and restructure requests. For a docs-only request, classify the task first and ask whether a live check is needed before opening a production session.

Preserve spaces in paths passed to lint.

The command substitution splits paths on spaces. The repository has paths under docs/4. Product Features/, so lint receives fragments rather than those page paths and skips them. Pass the filenames as null-delimited arguments instead. The lint implementation uses supplied paths directly and skips missing paths.
