fix(core): stop log rotation from overwriting backups in the same millisecond - #9871
This PR fixes the flaky TestLogWriterWithCompression (example failure). The flake is a real data-loss bug in LogWriter rotation, not a test problem.
log_writer_test.go:157:
Error: Not equal:
expected: 8977
actual : 10000
The args are swapped there, so 8977 is the line count the test found. Each rotated 1MB file holds exactly 1023 lines, so one whole backup went missing.
backupName stamps backups with 2006-01-02T15-04-05.000. When two rotations land in the same millisecond:
os.Rename silently replaces the earlier backup.
With Compress on, compress() opens <name>.gz with O_TRUNC and wipes the earlier compressed backup.
Either way a file of audit log lines is gone. On a fast disk, 1MB of buffered writes plus an fsync fits in a millisecond.
Changes
backupName now calls nextBackupName, which bumps the stamp a millisecond at a time until neither <name> nor <name>.gz exists. The format is unchanged, so names still parse and still sort in rotation order.
processOldLogFiles cut len(".log") off audit-<ts>.log.gz and got <ts>.lo, which doesn't parse, so compressed backups were never removed past MaxAge. It now strips .gz first. Heads up: with compression on, old .gz audit logs will now actually age out as configured.
The LogWriter tests wait on a sync.WaitGroup instead of time.Sleep(10s), use assert inside goroutines instead of require, and pass expected/actual in the right order. Each test drops from ~10s to ~0.1s.
New TestNextBackupName covers both collision cases and the .gz age-out parsing.
Testing
I ran TestLogWriter and TestLogWriterWithCompression-count=300 in a golang:1.27 container with the log dir on tmpfs to mimic a fast runner disk:

Bug Fixes
Log backups now avoid filename conflicts with existing plain or compressed backups, reducing the risk of overwriting saved logs.
Compressed backup files are now correctly recognized during old-log processing, helping log cleanup handle them consistently.
…lisecond
LogWriter names rotated backups with a millisecond timestamp. When two rotations land in the same millisecond,
os.Rename replaces the earlier backup and compress() truncates its .gz, so a full file of log lines is lost. This
is what makes TestLogWriterWithCompression flaky on fast CI disks. backupName now bumps the stamp until neither the
plain nor the .gz name exists.
processOldLogFiles also failed to parse the timestamp of compressed backups, so .gz files never aged out past
MaxAge. Strip the .gz suffix before parsing.
The LogWriter tests now wait on a WaitGroup instead of sleeping 10s, stop calling require from goroutines, and
pass expected/actual in the right order.

Backup names now avoid collisions with existing plain or compressed files. Old-log processing parses timestamps from compressed backup names. The tests cover these cases and use a WaitGroup to coordinate concurrent writes.
Changes: Log backup handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Backup naming and timestamp parsing x/log_writer.go, x/log_writer_test.go
nextBackupName advances the timestamp when a plain or .gz backup already exists. Old-log processing removes a trailing .gz before parsing the timestamp. Tests check collision handling and timestamp parsing.
Concurrent log-writer tests x/log_writer_test.go
The concurrent write test waits for all ten writers and checks write results and file-open errors. The encryption test no longer waits for a fixed ten seconds before closing.
The change fixes same-millisecond backup overwrites in log rotation. Two minor edge cases remain: transient filesystem errors are treated as "file not found" when choosing a backup name, and logs configured with a .gz extension would not have their old backups cleaned up. Neither affects normal configurations, so this is mergeable with small follow-ups.

nextBackupName treats every os.Lstat error as proof that a candidate is absent. If os.Lstat fails with a transient error other than non-existence, such as an I/O error, for an existing backup, the loop can return that occupied name. The later os.Rename or compress can then replace the backup. Only os.ErrNotExist should count as absent. Other errors should stop the search and return to the caller.
backupName can return that error to rotate. rotate already returns error, so the call at line 209 can return it as well.
Add errors to the imports if it is not already present. Update the backupName call in rotate to check the returned error.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Preserve the extension of an uncompressed .gz log.
If FilePath is audit.gz, an uncompressed backup also ends in .gz. TrimSuffix removes its configured extension, so the timestamp slice is incomplete and time.Parse skips the backup. Those backups never reach MaxAge cleanup. Remove .gz only when the filename ends in defExt+".gz". (raw.githubusercontent.com)
