Backend engineer building developer tools and systems software in Rust and Go. I care about performance and getting the internals right. Most of what I build starts as something I needed myself.
How I split things: Go for API and service layers, where simplicity and fast iteration matter. Rust for low-level work, where performance and correctness matter.
| Project | What it does | Stack |
|---|---|---|
| Midway | Runs long commands, tracks when they finish, and sends desktop or chat notifications. Has hooks for coding agents. Docs | Rust CLI |
| Waypoint | A shell wrapper that routes commands like cargo and bun to the right folder, based on a YAML config. |
Rust CLI |
| Dockeep | Cross-platform desktop app for capturing and organizing screen content with metadata. | Rust GPUI |
| Xcount | Fetches tweet, follower, and following counts in bulk, with JSON, CSV, or Excel export. | Rust CLI |
| Diesel Migration | Create, run, and revert Diesel ORM migrations without leaving VS Code. Marketplace | TypeScript VS Code |
| Rust Buddy | VS Code toolkit for managing crates and scaffolding files and modules. Marketplace | TypeScript VS Code |
I'm open to remote backend roles (Go and Rust). If your team builds infrastructure, developer tools, or high-performance services, get in touch through daviddanielng.xyz or on X.
