docs(minipay): refresh stats to Q3 2026 and add what MiniPay prioritises - #2409
Conversation
Update MiniPay figures to the MiniPay Update Q3 2026 forum post (20M+ wallet activations, 70+ countries) and add a short section on the categories MiniPay prioritises, with the bar for payment apps from the Celo team (own licensing, own liquidity, 1,000+ MAU for 6+ months). Thanks for this. The new numbers match the Q3 2026 forum post (20M+ wallet activations, 70+ countries), the five files agree, and I couldn't find an old 10M+ or 18M+ anywhere else in the repo. Pointing to the quarterly update instead of listing categories also covers GigaHierz's comment.
Two things before this goes in. The USA₮ line in build-with-usat.mdx says USA₮ launched with MiniPay and that MiniPay is a distribution channel for USA₮ Mini Apps. MiniPay was named a Day One partner in the March announcement, but at go-live it only "plans to add support" (https://cryptobriefing.com/tether-usat-stablecoin-launches-celo/), and the forum post you cite lists "Roll out USA₮ support in MiniPay" under Q4. Our own Mini Apps page says MiniPay holds USDm, USDC and USDT. Since this PR already edits that sentence, please make it say what is true today, and link the Mini Apps page instead of repeating the stat.
The payment-apps Warning needs a scope and an owner. Almost every Mini App takes a payment, so "payment apps" needs the definition the Celopedia version has (local payments, QR pay, transfers). It should also say who applies the rule. MiniPay's submission requirements don't mention it, and the forum post names local payments as one of its best categories, so a reader who checks the forum as the paragraph suggests will be confused. If it is a MiniPay listing rule, it would be good to have Opera confirm it.
Small one: the forum link goes to the forum root. A search link for the latest MiniPay update would save readers a step.
…nt-apps guidance, and link the latest MiniPay update The USA₮ page no longer claims a launch-day integration; it says what holds today and links the Mini Apps page. The payment-apps warning now names which apps it covers and says it is Celo's guidance, not a MiniPay listing rule. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…y's docs require MiniPay wallets hold USA₮, but MiniPay asks Mini Apps to use USDT, USDC and USDm only. The USA₮ page now says both and links MiniPay's supported-tokens section; the Mini Apps stablecoin table is back to MiniPay's list. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Thanks, this covers most of what I asked. The USA₮ paragraph now says what MiniPay's docs say and links the Mini Apps page, and the forum search link returns the Q3 update first.
One thing is still open, and I've left it inline: the DeFi warning doesn't say who applies the rule. MiniPay's submission requirements don't mention it, and the Q3 post linked in the paragraph above lists savings among MiniPay's best categories, so readers will want to know whether this is MiniPay's listing bar or our advice. That can be a follow-up and doesn't block this.
| MiniPay shares the kinds of Mini Apps it is prioritizing, and where it is heading, in its quarterly updates on the Celo forum. Check the [latest MiniPay update](https://forum.celo.org/search?q=%22MiniPay%20Update%22%20%40opera_minipay%20order%3Alatest) before you pick what to build. | ||

| DeFi apps (lending, borrowing, savings and similar) are for projects with a long-term background in DeFi only, to ensure the highest quality and security for users. They also need the licenses required in every market they operate in and their own liquidity. |

Who sets this bar, MiniPay or the Celo team? MiniPay's submission requirements (https://docs.minipay.xyz/getting-started/submit-your-miniapp.html) don't mention DeFi, licensing or liquidity, and the Q3 update linked just above names savings among MiniPay's best categories. Starting the sentence with "MiniPay only lists..." or "We recommend..." would settle it. @GigaHierz, since the rule came from you, can you confirm which one it is? Fine as a follow-up.
| **Compliant remittance** — Use USA₮ as the regulated on-ramp leg, then convert to a local stablecoin via Mento (USDm, BRLm, KESm, NGNm, and more), Ripio wFIAT (wBRL, wARS, wMXN, wCOP), or VNX (VGBP, VCHF) depending on the destination corridor. | ||
|
|
||
| **MiniPay Mini App** — USA₮ launched with MiniPay as a Day One integration partner. MiniPay has 18M+ wallet activations across 66+ countries — a built-in distribution channel for any USA₮-denominated Mini App. | ||
| **MiniPay** — MiniPay wallets can hold USA₮, but MiniPay asks Mini Apps to price and settle in USDT, USDC or USDm only ([supported tokens for Mini Apps](https://docs.minipay.xyz/technical-references/retrieve-balance.html#supported-tokens-for-mini-apps)). Build a USA₮ app for other wallets, or check MiniPay's docs before pricing a Mini App in USA₮. See [Mini Apps](/build/mini-apps/overview). |

Nit: right after quoting MiniPay's docs saying Mini Apps should use USDT, USDC or USDm only, "check MiniPay's docs before pricing a Mini App in USA₮" reads oddly. Maybe: "Until MiniPay's docs list USA₮ for Mini Apps, price a Mini App in USDT, USDC or USDm."
What
Refreshes the MiniPay figures to the latest official numbers and adds a short section on which Mini Apps MiniPay prioritizes.
