Summary

Changes to the buildnotes skill's judgement from two rounds of evals (skill-creator, with and without the skill / against a snapshot), plus the eval cases themselves.

Skill guidance (written as reasons rather than hard rules, so the agent keeps room for taste):

  • Standard practice is thin. Work any capable team does the usual way (self-hosted fonts, player chapters, a sitemap, method guards on static files) isn't its own post, even when asked for a deep dive, unless something unusual happened. Look for an arc across nearby work, or offer a line in a larger release.
  • Before, then after. When a change replaces something, show the old way first and label it, so readers don't see the change in reverse.
  • A post is not a support page. Launch posts stay directionally right and leave the cases to the docs, so they don't go stale. A requested deep dive can go further into mechanism and cases.
  • Cut edge cases and UI inventories outside a deep dive.
  • Plain headings; titles name the feature, not the example.
  • No forced call to action for quality-of-life fixes, changed defaults, or agent-facing features.
  • Shorter "not worth a post" hand-offs.
  • lint.mjs bans "earns its keep", "earns its place" and "pulls its weight".

Evals: dev/evals/evals.json has four cases against public repos (honojs/hono #5541, astral-sh/uv #22593, hono #5487, hono #5514), each with checks a grader can verify. The skill-creator workspace (skills/*-workspace/) is gitignored.

Results

Round Current skill Baseline
1 (this repo's own PRs) 100% 64% (no skill)
2 (Hono and uv PRs) 93% 86% (original skill)

In round 2 the clearest difference was serve-static: the revised skill declined the deep dive as standard practice; the original proposed a larger deep dive. Assertions on the build story and the thin fix didn't separate the versions, so those cases are mainly useful for human review.

Test plan

  • npm test (122 passing)
  • Reran the uv release case after the last round: about 220 words, no list of credential sources

Standard practice counts as thin; show the before first; keep launch
posts directionally right and leave cases to the docs; plain headings;
no forced try-it; ban a few AI-trope phrases in lint. Add dev/evals
with four cases against public repos and ignore the eval workspace.
