fork/consolidated now contains upstream main through eec9288a (three commits), so a JSX tag imported from the project renders what its module exports (colbymchenry#2563), a .jsx component links to the file-scope values it reads as .js and .tsx do (colbymchenry#2561), and a tag written in a comment or string renders no JSX child (colbymchenry#2564).

Conflicts. Four files conflicted, because upstream wrote its fixes against the regex-based JavaScript resolver and the fork reads the kernel's binding rows. Nothing brings the regexes back.

File Resolution
__tests__/kernel-tsjs-parity.test.ts Stays deleted (the fork removed it with the WebAssembly parser). Upstream's new .jsx assertion is covered by value-reference-edges.test.ts, which merged cleanly.
codegraph-kernel/src/tsjs/mod.rs Fork's version kept. colbymchenry#2561's change is applied in the fork's tsjs/fnref.rs: the .jsx exclusion in capture_value_ref_scope and flush_value_refs is gone; tree-sitter.ts adds jsx to VALUE_REF_LANGS.
src/resolution/frameworks/react.ts Upstream's held-binding step (const Avatar = AvatarWithHoverCard; export { Avatar } exports the held component), reading binding rows through exportsBinding(bindings, local) instead of a source-text check.
src/resolution/callback-synthesizer.ts Fork's imports kept plus exportedComponent and jsxCode. Upstream's input-file list (collectInputs, JSX_INPUT_FILE, importedTagModules) is not taken: the fork re-runs synthesis in full on a sync that changes a file.

Checks, on this head. Upstream's four new or changed test files pass (jsx-child-disambiguation 39, react-router-lazy-barrel 10, sync-jsx-import-forwarding 5, value-reference-edges 30). Full suite 725 files / 9,115 tests pass (39 skipped); tsc --noEmit and check:agent-docs clean; golden dumps unchanged; kernel builds. Precision gate (eval:precision): vite absent 6/6 and present 2/2 held, vitest absent 1/1 held.

Upstream sync failure not inherited. Upstream since d0bb9be5 fails codegraph sync with "FOREIGN KEY constraint failed" when a changed file declares a lazy value that loads a workspace package (dynamic(() => import('icons').then(...))), because it records the package directory as a synthesis input. This branch syncs the same small project (a pnpm workspace plus one such file) with exit 0, since the fork does not take collectInputs.

README. The "About this fork" merge point now names eec9288a. Rows checked and left as they were: React Router, getHref, framework mode, Solid, inferred links kept current on sync, fork-vs-upstream benchmark (refresh is a separate change).

Fixtures edited. In __tests__/jsx-child-disambiguation.test.ts a backtick case writes Press `Ctrl` + <Kbd> where upstream writes and <Kbd>, for the same reason as the earlier Sign in: <LoginPage /> edit: the fork's tag detector (opensTag) reads a word before < as a comparison. Assertions are unchanged; the it.fails for upstream's 'Sign in ' case stays.

Not covered. Sync cost with the new "redraw when only the file that passes the component on changes" behavior was not measured. scripts/changelog-reconcile.mjs would also add six older upstream changelog entries the fork lacks; only the three entries from these commits were added. Land as a merge commit so eec9288a stays a parent.

Summary by cubic

Merges upstream main through eec9288a into fork/consolidated: a JSX tag imported from the project now renders what its module exports, .jsx components link to the file-scope values they read, and a tag written in a comment or string renders no JSX child.

Four files conflicted; the fork keeps its kernel-binding-rows approach. Upstream's collectInputs synthesis input list is not taken, so the upstream FOREIGN KEY constraint failed sync failure is not inherited. __tests__/kernel-tsjs-parity.test.ts stays deleted (its .jsx case is covered by value-reference-edges.test.ts), and one fixture writes + <Kbd> where upstream writes and <Kbd> because opensTag reads a word before < as a comparison.

The value-reference design docs list jsx among the supported languages, keep the original rollout list, note that jsx was added in 2026-10, and drop the parity-test note. All 9,115 tests pass, tsc --noEmit and docs checks are clean, and the precision gate holds with and without vite.

Merge choices.

  • exportedComponent reads the kernel's binding rows; upstream's held-binding step (const Avatar = AvatarWithHoverCard; export { Avatar }) is ported on top of them and now also resolves a wrapper's bodyless component node (memo(Blurhash)).
  • The .jsx value-reference change is made in the fork's Rust walker (tsjs/fnref.rs): the jsx exclusions in capture_value_ref_scope and flush_value_refs are dropped, and VALUE_REF_LANGS in tree-sitter.ts gains jsx.
  • importedTagModules, JSX_INPUT_FILE and the collectInputs addition are not taken; the fork re-runs synthesis in full on a sync, which makes sync-jsx-import-forwarding.test.ts pass.
  • CHANGELOG.md takes only the three entries these upstream commits add, and README.md names eec9288a as the merge point.

Written for commit ca68a80. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Impact analysis now includes top-level constants and variables in .jsx files, with value-reference tracking also available for JSX and Pascal.
    • React component links now follow project exports through barrels, aliases, and wrappers. Sync and file watching refresh links when forwarding files change.
  • Bug Fixes
    • JSX tags found only in comments, strings, templates, or non-JSX TypeScript files no longer appear as renders; real JSX tags remain recognized.

…le exports (colbymchenry#2563)

The JSX render pass matched a tag by name and used the file's imports only
to break ties, so an index that forwards another module's component
declared no candidate and the tag took a namesake elsewhere: outline's
Sidebar/index.ts is `import Sidebar from "./App"; export default Sidebar`,
and <Sidebar> rendered Aside.tsx's styled Sidebar, not the AppSidebar that
App.tsx exports as observer(AppSidebar).

A tag imported from a module of the project now renders what that module
exports under the imported name, read by exportedComponent, the reader
lazy routes use: through an index or barrel, past a wrapper call. Two rules
join that reader, for routes too: a const holding another binding is that
binding (`const Avatar = AvatarWithHoverCard; export { Avatar }`; a let may
be reassigned, so it stays), and a memo wrapper's bodyless component node is
the component it wraps (`const MemoizedBlurhash = memo(Blurhash)`). A module
whose export is no component node (`export default () => ...`) links nothing
rather than a namesake. Sync records every file a tag's import is read
through as a synthesis input, so rewiring only the index redraws the tag.

…s in .js and .tsx (colbymchenry#2561)

Value-reference edges (a reader symbol -> the file-scope const/var it
reads, which impact follows) ran for typescript, tsx and javascript but
not jsx. A .jsx file is its own language, parsed with the JavaScript
grammar, so the same component had no edge to the lazy page it renders
(`<LoginPage />` under `const LoginPage = Loadable(lazy(...))`), the route
table or the config it maps over as .jsx, and all of them as .js or .tsx.
Every other JS-family gate in the extractor lists jsx, and nothing in the
history says this one was left out on purpose: the kernel mirrored the gap
with an explicit "NOT jsx" check for parity.

Add jsx to VALUE_REF_LANGS and drop the kernel's jsx exclusion.

On mantis, matx, berry, mastodon and bigbluebutton-html5 the index only
gains edges (35, 56, 15, 28 and 266): no node, ref or file changes and no
edge removed. Every added edge is a same-file read of a file-scope value
that is the only binding of its name in the file. A repo with no .jsx
files indexes byte-identically, and kernel-parity.mjs shows 0 diffs over
those repos with the same deferrals as before.

…ld (colbymchenry#2564)

The jsx-render pass read tag names off each parent's raw lines, so text
that only mentions a tag rendered it: react-router's hooks rendered the
`Router`, `Routes` and `Route` their JSDoc, comments and invariant
messages name ("You cannot render a <Router> inside another <Router>"),
shadcn's `useCarousel` the `Carousel` its error names, and layouts the
markup commented out of them (`{/* <Progress /> */}`).

The pass now scans a code-only view of each file (`jsxCode`, new in
src/resolution/jsx-code.ts): comments and the contents of string,
template and regex literals and of JSX attribute strings are blanked,
offsets and line breaks kept. The lexer follows JSX elements, so a quote,
slash or backtick in JSX text (`Don't`, `https://…`) stays text, and it
re-reads a `<` that opens a type parameter list (`<T,>(x: T) =>`) as an
operator. A file it can't read as one program (an unbalanced brace, a
string open at a line's end, a mismatched closing tag) is scanned as it
is, as before. TypeScript `.ts` files are skipped outright: they can't
hold JSX. The lexer's state lives in a class whose methods every file
shares: closures made per file sent V8 back to recompile it for file
after file.

Checked against TypeScript's parser on 36 React repos (7,649 files,
62,377 `<Name` matches): no real tag blanked, no file given up on, 614
non-JSX matches removed. Graph A/B on 12 repos: -36 jsx-render edges,
+0, nothing else changed; the TypeScript oracle grades all 36 as tags in
comments or strings.

Brings in upstream colbymchenry#2563 (a JSX tag imported from the project renders what
its module exports), colbymchenry#2561 (a .jsx component links to the file-scope values
it reads) and colbymchenry#2564 (a tag written in a comment or a string renders no JSX
child).

Fork-side choices:
- exportedComponent keeps reading the kernel's binding rows. Upstream's
held-binding step (const Avatar = AvatarWithHoverCard; export { Avatar })
is ported on top of them: exportsBinding takes the binding rows, and the
fallback to the value itself is kept.
- The .jsx value-reference change is made in the fork's Rust walker
(tsjs/fnref.rs): the jsx exclusion in capture_value_ref_scope and
flush_value_refs is dropped, and the unused Variant::value_refs is not
restored in mod.rs. VALUE_REF_LANGS in tree-sitter.ts gains 'jsx'.
- __tests__/kernel-tsjs-parity.test.ts stays deleted (the fork has no second
parser to compare against); the .jsx case upstream added there is covered
by value-reference-edges.test.ts, which came in unchanged.
- importedTagModules, JSX_INPUT_FILE and the collectInputs addition are not
taken: the fork keeps no synthesis-input list and re-runs synthesis in full
on a sync, so sync-jsx-import-forwarding.test.ts passes without them.
- jsx-child-disambiguation.test.ts: the backtick case writes "+ <Kbd>" where
upstream writes "and <Kbd>", because the fork's opensTag reads a word
before "<" as a comparison. The 'Sign in ' case stays it.fails.
- CHANGELOG.md takes only the three entries these upstream commits add; the
changelog-reconcile rebuild would also add six upstream entries earlier
than this merge that the fork's file lacks.
- README names upstream main through eec9288; framework-coverage.md gains
trap 20; the value-reference design notes drop the parity-test reference.

📝 Walkthrough

The changes filter non-code text from JSX scanning, resolve imported React components through project exports, and refresh render links during sync. They also enable value-reference extraction for JSX and Pascal and update the fork’s recorded upstream commit.

Changes: JSX Render Resolution

Layer / File(s) Summary
JSX source scanning
src/resolution/jsx-code.ts, src/resolution/callback-synthesizer.ts, __tests__/jsx-child-disambiguation.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
A bounded lexer masks comments and literal text while preserving source offsets. Tests cover JSX detection and malformed input.
Component export resolution
src/resolution/frameworks/react.ts, src/resolution/callback-synthesizer.ts, __tests__/jsx-child-disambiguation.test.ts, __tests__/react-router-lazy-barrel.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
Export lookup follows held bindings and wrappers. Tests cover imported components, barrels, aliases, and lazy routes.
JSX synthesis and sync
src/resolution/callback-synthesizer.ts, __tests__/sync-jsx-import-forwarding.test.ts, docs/design/framework-coverage.md
The synthesizer filters JSX-capable files, scans masked source, and caches export lookups. Sync tests compare updated render links with fresh indexes.

Value-Reference Language Support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Value-reference extraction
codegraph-kernel/src/tsjs/*, src/extraction/tree-sitter.ts
The kernel no longer blocks value-reference collection by variant. The extractor adds Pascal language coverage.
Value-reference coverage
__tests__/value-reference-edges.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md, docs/design/value-reference-edges*, docs/design/value-reference-edges-playbook.md
A JSX regression test checks reader edges. The changelog and design notes document language coverage and test results.

Fork Baseline Note

Layer / File(s) Summary
Upstream commit reference
README.md
The fork description now identifies upstream commit eec9288a instead of d0bb9be5.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to ca68a

Some TypeScript generics can produce incorrect render links, and Pascal reads with different casing can lack value-reference links. These localized graph inaccuracies are worth tracking but do not appear to block the merge.

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 680e1

The changes affect how the analyzer reads JSX: tags written in comments or strings are ignored, imported components resolve through project exports, and value references are now collected for .jsx files too. Repository source is the only input, and the only output is graph edges. Nothing adds new privileges, network access, secrets or deployment surface. Work on a hostile repository is bounded by limits that already exist or are added here. The main risk is that some graph edges come out more or less precise than before.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The worst a hostile repository can do through these changes is skew the edges in its own local code graph or add bounded parsing work. No credential, network, tenant or privilege boundary is involved.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The existing controls remain after the change: the CODEGRAPH_VALUE_REFS kill switch, the generated-file exclusion and the node-count cap.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Add an adversarial-input test for jsxCode, such as deeply nested or unterminated template and JSX constructs, to confirm that its cost stays linear apart from the 64-re-read cap.

- Line 589: Update the Pascal value-reference handling in `flushValueRefs` and
its target-recording and declaration-counting paths to normalize identifier
names consistently before using them as `Map` keys or matching reads, so case
variants such as `Config` and `CONFIG` resolve to the same value reference.

Review comments at @src/resolution/jsx-code.ts:
- Around line 306-308: Update the `<` handling in the lexer so that when
`operators` records its position, the character is blanked before scanning
continues, preventing `JSX_TAG_RE` and `opensTag` from treating generic type
parameters as JSX tags. Update the direct test to exclude generic type
parameters and add an end-to-end assertion that this case creates no render edge
to `T`.
