c.req.header() produced no call edge in hono. Two things in ts_field_decl (kernel, resolve/fields.rs) hid the field req from the receiver lookup:

  • req is declared get req(): HonoRequest<P, I['out']>. Only req: T fields were read, so a getter never typed anything. A get field(): T line now types the field as T.
  • The class's constructor is constructor(req: Request, ...). A plain parameter of that name was accepted as the field's declaration and, coming first, hid the getter. A parameter now declares the field only with a modifier (private req: T), or in a class that extends another and may hand it to super (the existing field-chain-owner case for an inherited field).

Measured on hono at the pinned commit against the compiler oracle used in the gap register (section 6.1):

Before After
calls edges 1790 1864
Oracle edges matched 469 / 706 (0.664) 472 / 706 (0.669)
Edges removed 0

63 of the 74 added edges are in test files, which the oracle does not judge. Of the 11 in source files, 8 come from callers the oracle did not reach and 3 match the oracle on another overload line. No added edge contradicts the oracle where it reached the caller. Recall barely moves because the fork links header calls to the first overload signature (line 185) while the oracle keys the implementation (line 188), and the oracle credits a call to the outermost named function. zod's call edges are identical before and after.

Tests: a new case in js-family-receiver-fixes.test.ts (getter typed by its return type, a same-named plain constructor parameter, a getter with no return type declined, and a same-named method on another class not chosen). Full suite 687 files, 8760 tests passing; no golden dump changed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved TypeScript method resolution for properties accessed through getters with declared return types.
    • Corrected how constructor parameters are treated when resolving methods, including in classes with inheritance.
    • Refined handling of unannotated getters, plain constructor parameters, and parameter properties to avoid incorrect method resolution.
  • Tests
    • Added regression coverage for getter-backed properties, including unannotated and object-literal getters, and for constructor parameters that share names with properties.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The TypeScript field resolver recognizes typed getters as field declarations. Matching constructor parameters count as declarations when the class inherits or the parameter has a parameter-property modifier. Regression tests cover getter-backed receiver resolution and constructor-parameter handling.

Getter and constructor-parameter detection
codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/fields.rs, __tests__/js-family-receiver-fixes.test.ts, CHANGELOG.md
The resolver recognizes typed getter declarations and passes field location and inheritance data to constructor-parameter matching. Matching parameters count as declarations when the class inherits or the parameter has a parameter-property modifier. Tests cover typed and untyped getters, object-literal getters, same-named constructor parameters, plain constructor parameters, and parameter properties. The changelog describes these changes.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in CHANGELOG.md: Adds a Fixes entry describing calls through getter-declared properties and when constructor parameters count as field declarations.
  • observed — Modified behavior in codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/fields.rs: ts_field_decl now detects extends in the class heading while ignoring generic type parameters. It additionally recognizes zero-argument getters with typed returns as field declarations, excluding occurrences inside other methods.
  • observed — Modified behavior in codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/fields.rs: The ts_declares_field call now passes a FieldSite and whether the class inherits; the previous call passed line text, line number, and offset separately.
  • observed — Modified behavior in codegraph-kernel/src/resolve/fields.rs: Adds the FieldSite struct to group a candidate declaration’s line text, line number, and byte offset.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Restrict inherited constructor parameters to arguments passed to super.

inherits is true for every derived class. The constructor branch therefore accepts any plain typed parameter as a field, even when the constructor does not pass that parameter to super. A call such as this.req.header() can then resolve to Req::header although the parameter does not create this.req.

Keep parameter properties and explicit this.req assignments. For the inherited-field fallback, require that the matched parameter is forwarded by the constructor's super(...) call. The existing inherited-field case depends on this narrower behavior.

The test does not isolate the plain constructor-parameter rule. A same-named typed getter can continue to resolve c.req to Req, so the test may still pass if plain parameters are incorrectly treated as fields. A separate fixture with no same-named getter, or an assertion that directly exercises the constructor parameter as a receiver, is warranted.

Add a separate fixture in the test around `callsFrom` where `Ctx` has a plain
constructor parameter named `req` but no `req` getter or field; assert that
using `c.req` does not resolve to a class member through that parameter. Keep
the existing getter-based test focused on getter return-type resolution.

Review: #450 (review)
Head: 7b9881c
Reason: The nitpick is fixed: the new test "does not treat a plain constructor parameter as a field" has a class with no getter, so the constructor rule is tested alone. The outside-diff finding is valid but not changed here. A derived class still accepts any typed constructor parameter as a field, as it did before this PR; the PR only stops doing that for classes that extend nothing. Requiring the parameter to be forwarded to super(...) needs parsing the constructor body, which is a separate change, so it is recorded as a follow-up.
