What

stopRuntime takes { oldServersStopped: true } for "I have confirmed every old-version MCP server and direct or fallback writer for this project is stopped". { legacyQuiescent: true }, the earlier name, still works until the installer that calls it has moved over; a follow-up removes it. The API docs and the README sentence now describe what the option means instead of using the word "quiescence".

This is step 1 of 3. The deployed installer passes the old name, so the order is: this PR (new name plus alias), then the installer change in its own repository, then a PR here that deletes the alias.

Checks

  • __tests__/runtime-control.test.ts: the legacy-daemon test runs once per option name; 61 pass (it needs a built dist/).
  • __tests__/readme-sync.test.ts and npm run check:agent-docs pass.

README rows checked

"About this fork" rows and numbers: none affected. Changed one sentence in the runtime-control section (README line 869) and the matching API reference page. No CHANGELOG entry: the runtime-control API is still under [Unreleased], so no released name changes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Runtime-control settings now accept oldServersStopped to confirm that all other old-version sessions and writers for a project are stopped. The earlier legacyQuiescent option remains supported as an alias.
  • Documentation
    • Clarified that stopping the daemon alone does not confirm other writers are stopped, and that the same confirmation is required after restoring an old-version daemon. Unverified daemon records continue to be preserved.

stopRuntime takes oldServersStopped, meaning the caller has confirmed every
old-version MCP server and fallback writer is stopped. The earlier name,
legacyQuiescent, is still accepted until the installer that calls it moves
to the new one. Docs and README say what the option means instead of using
the word quiescence.

stopRuntime accepts oldServersStopped and retains legacyQuiescent. Tests cover both options. Documentation describes confirming that every other old-version server is stopped before cutover.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 26e9e

The confirmation option remains available under both names, and the documentation clarifies which old-version writers must be stopped. No concrete merge risk is established; the change appears ready to merge subject to normal checks.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/runtime-control.test.ts: The test now runs separately with oldServersStopped and legacyQuiescent, replacing the single explicit-quiescence case; its description identifies the selected option as the condition for stopping the legacy daemon.
  • observed — Modified behavior in tests/runtime-control.test.ts: The termination assertion now enables whichever option is supplied by the parameterized test, instead of always enabling legacyQuiescent.
  • observed — Modified behavior in README.md: The runtime-control documentation replaces the requirement for live legacy writers to reach session quiescence with explicit confirmation that every other live old-version server is stopped before cutover.
  • observed — Modified behavior in site/src/content/docs/reference/api.md: The guidance replaces {legacyQuiescent: true} as the stated confirmation option with {oldServersStopped: true} and expands the required check to every other old-version MCP session and direct or fallback writer. It excludes the daemon stopped by stopRuntime, clarifies that daemon death alone is insufficient, applies the confirmation requirement to a restored old-version daemon, and identifies {legacyQuiescent: true} as the earlier spelling of the same option.
