Add PS2 EyeToy OV519 webcam support

This update extends the kernel configuration with support for Sony PlayStation 2 EyeToy USB cameras using the OV519 bridge.

The existing configuration already provides the V4L2 and USB infrastructure required for webcam support. This change additionally enables the GSPCA framework and the OV519 driver as loadable modules.

The goal is to provide native Linux support for the PS2 EyeToy webcam family while keeping the GSPCA configuration limited to the driver required by the supported hardware.

Changes

Enabled as modules:

  • CONFIG_USB_GSPCA=m
  • CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV519=m

The OV519 driver provides explicit support for both PS2 EyeToy USB device variants:

  • 054c:0154
  • 054c:0155

The unrelated OV534 drivers remain disabled:

  • CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV534
  • CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV534_9

Kconfig automatically enables the required supporting media and V4L2 infrastructure.

Compatibility

The OV519 driver supports both PS2 EyeToy USB variants through the same GSPCA driver.

The tested device:

054c:0155 Sony Corp. Eyetoy Video Device

was successfully detected and initialized by gspca_ov519.

The driver creates a V4L2 capture device:

/dev/video0

with support for:

  • Video capture
  • Read/write access
  • Streaming
  • JPEG capture
  • 320x240
  • 640x480

Post-install verification

The installed kernel was tested after installation to verify that the configuration, module installation, USB device detection, driver binding, V4L2 registration, and video streaming work correctly.

Kernel configuration

The running kernel is:

7.2.8-ryzen9

The resulting configuration contains:

CONFIG_USB_GSPCA=m
CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV519=m

The unrelated OV534 drivers remain disabled:

# CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV534 is not set
# CONFIG_USB_GSPCA_OV534_9 is not set

Module installation

The OV519 module is installed for the running kernel:

modinfo gspca_ov519

The module reports:

filename: /lib/modules/7.2.8-ryzen9/kernel/drivers/media/usb/gspca/gspca_ov519.ko.xz
depends: usbcore,gspca_main
vermagic: 7.2.8-ryzen9 SMP preempt mod_unload modversions

The module also exposes USB aliases for both supported EyeToy variants:

alias: usb:v054Cp0155d*
alias: usb:v054Cp0154d*

USB device detection

The tested EyeToy is detected by USB:

lsusb -d 054c:0155

Result:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 054c:0155 Sony Corp. Eyetoy Video Device

Driver loading

The required GSPCA modules are loaded:

lsmod | grep gspca

Result includes:

gspca_ov519
gspca_main

The kernel log confirms successful driver probing and registration:

gspca_main: ov519-2.14.0 probing 054c:0155
input: ov519 as ...
usbcore: registered new interface driver ov519

V4L2 device registration

The driver creates the expected video device:

ls -l /dev/video*

Result:

/dev/video0

The V4L2 device reports:

v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --all

with:

Driver name : ov519
Card type : EyeToy USB camera Namtai
Driver version : 7.2.8
Capabilities : Video Capture
                   Read/Write
                   Streaming
                   Extended Pix Format

Supported video formats

The camera reports JPEG capture support at the following resolutions:

v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --list-formats-ext
[0]: 'JPEG' (JFIF JPEG, compressed)
    Size: Discrete 320x240
    Size: Discrete 640x480

Live video streaming

Live video capture was successfully tested from /dev/video0 using the V4L2 interface and ffplay at 640x480 using the camera's JPEG format.

This confirms that the device is not only enumerated by USB and registered by V4L2, but is also capable of delivering live video frames through the installed kernel driver.

Result

The installed 7.2.8-ryzen9 kernel successfully provides native PS2 EyeToy webcam support.

Both 054c:0154 and 054c:0155 are supported by the installed gspca_ov519 module, while the tested 054c:0155 device was successfully verified through the complete USB → GSPCA → V4L2 → live video capture path.

The configuration remains minimal by enabling only the GSPCA core and OV519 driver required for this hardware.
