Rofi Tokyonight — Gentoo OpenRC

A complete Rofi-Wayland configuration for a Gentoo GNU/Linux desktop using OpenRC + Wayland, based on the working configuration and source patch developed and tested with Rofi-Wayland 1.7.8_p1::guru.

No systemd or journalctl is required.

Filebrowser fix

Rofi stores its filebrowser location in:

~/.cache/rofi3.filebrowsercache

The reference version updates this cache when entering a directory, but the normal .. navigation path did not update it.

This project patches both relevant parent-navigation paths. The resulting behavior is:

B -> .. -> A -> Esc

and the cache becomes:

A

The next rofi -show filebrowser starts in A.

Install from GitHub

Once the repository is published:

git clone https://github.com/USER/REPOSITORY.git
cd REPOSITORY
chmod +x .install scripts/*.sh
./.install

The only value that needs replacing is the GitHub repository URL.

You can also use the included bootstrap helper:

./scripts/bootstrap.sh https://github.com/USER/REPOSITORY.git

.install

Run as the normal desktop user:

./.install

The installer:

1. verifies that equery resolves gui-apps/rofi-wayland to 1.7.8_p1;
2. installs config.rasi to ~/.config/rofi/config.rasi;
3. installs tokyonight.rasi to ~/.config/rofi/tokyonight.rasi;
4. installs the Portage patch under /etc/portage/patches/;
5. runs Portage clean unpack prepare;
6. verifies the patch in the prepared source;
7. compiles and installs =gui-apps/rofi-wayland-1.7.8_p1::guru.

The GURU ebuild itself is never modified.

Verify

./scripts/verify.sh

Check the cache:

cat ~/.cache/rofi3.filebrowsercache

Functional test

mkdir -p /tmp/rofi-test/A/B
rofi -show filebrowser

Navigate to /tmp/rofi-test/A/B, select .., then press Esc.

Verify:

cat ~/.cache/rofi3.filebrowsercache

Expected:

/tmp/rofi-test/A

Run Rofi again:

rofi -show filebrowser

It should start in /tmp/rofi-test/A.

Uninstall project files

./scripts/uninstall.sh

This removes only the configuration/theme and Portage patch. It does not uninstall Rofi.

Updating Rofi

The patch is intentionally tied to 1.7.8_p1. If the GURU package changes version, review source/modes/filebrowser.c and update the patch before using it with a newer release.

Rofi and its upstream source remain under their respective upstream licenses; this repository contains configuration and a small Gentoo user patch, not a redistribution of the Rofi source tree.
