What is the current behavior?

InMemoryVectorAdapter.search() returns stored embeddings and metadata directly. Changing a result can corrupt later similarity scores or change which user's filter retrieves a memory. The metadata copies in store() and get() are shallow as well.

What is the new behavior?

Copy result embeddings and use the framework's deepClone at the metadata boundaries in store, get and search. Search cloning happens after filtering, ranking and limiting.

Make the internal clone fallback recursive when structuredClone cannot copy metadata containing functions. It preserves nested objects/arrays, cycles, shared references and common collection types; functions retain their existing references. ArrayBuffer, SharedArrayBuffer, typed arrays and DataView receive valid backing storage, preserve offsets/lengths, and share the same cloned buffer when they shared the original buffer. Ordinary objects retain the previous fallback's plain-object behavior.

Validation

  • Two original regressions fail on the base revision; three nested-metadata regressions fail before deep cloning.
  • Five new utility regressions and three adapter-boundary cases fail on the prior fallback implementation. Two further binary regressions fail on the first recursive fallback.
  • Core memory suite: 161 passed, including 34 type tests. Internal package suite: 136 passed, 1 existing Symbol test skipped.
  • Modified objects.ts: 100% line, statement, branch and function coverage while running the complete internal suite with coverage scoped to this file.
  • Core and internal TypeScript checks and CJS/ESM/declaration builds pass. Core/internal Biome checks pass with the same five existing core complexity warnings.
  • Full internal-package coverage still fails the existing global utility threshold due to safe-stringify.ts; verified against the original implementation, which fails the same threshold. No coverage threshold or unrelated utility was changed.
  • Checks use the repository's locked dependencies for core, internal and logger. The entire monorepo build was not run.

PR Checklist

  • Conventional commit message
  • Regression tests added
  • Patch changeset for core and internal
  • Related issues: independently reproduced behavior and current review findings.
  • Documentation: existing API behavior is restored; no API changes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Vector search results now contain independent copies of vectors and metadata. Changing returned data no longer alters stored memories or affects later searches, including searches filtered by user.
    • Nested metadata changes made to input data after storage, or to data returned by retrieval, no longer affect stored memories.
    • Complex metadata, including data with cycles or functions, is better isolated when stored and retrieved.
    • Vectors stored without metadata remain available in search results with metadata reported as undefined.

The internal deepClone fallback now recursively clones supported values when structuredClone is unavailable or fails. The in-memory vector adapter deep-clones metadata during storage and retrieval. Search results include copied vectors and metadata.

Changes

Vector data cloning

Layer / File(s) Summary
Recursive clone fallback
packages/internal/src/utils/objects.ts, packages/internal/src/utils/objects.spec.ts
When structuredClone is unavailable or fails, deepClone recursively clones supported values. The fallback preserves cycles and shared references. Tests cover nested data, collections, dates, regular expressions, and an own __proto__ property.
In-memory vector storage and retrieval
packages/core/src/memory/adapters/vector/in-memory.ts, packages/core/src/memory/adapters/vector/in-memory.spec.ts, .changeset/clean-vector-search-results.md
Store, get, and search paths deep-clone metadata. Search results copy vectors. Tests cover mutations to inputs and returned values, user-filtered retrieval, and missing metadata. The changeset declares patch releases for @voltagent/core and @voltagent/internal.

Metadata containing a function and a buffer with an overridden slice method can retain shared storage. This is a bounded issue to fix before relying on isolation for that input.

Call the built-in buffer slice method to preserve isolation.

If a supplied buffer defines buffer.slice = () => buffer, this call stores the original buffer when metadata also contains a function. Later changes to the caller’s buffer then change stored metadata. Call the appropriate built-in ArrayBuffer or SharedArrayBuffer slice method instead, and cover the override in a fallback test.
