📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe SDK now combines caller cancellation with its configured request timeout. Caller aborts propagate as caller errors, while SDK timeouts remain 408 API errors. New tests cover cancellation, timeout behavior, successful responses, connection failures, and timer cleanup. ChangesSDK Request Cancellation
Priority: ➖ Normal Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~15 minutes Change: Bug fix · Severity of issue fixed: Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Callers that pass an abort signal on Node 20.0 to 20.2 would fail before the request is sent. Either add a fallback or declare a minimum Node version of 20.3 or later. The impact is narrow, so the change is mergeable with that awareness. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)✨ Finishing Touches🧪 Generate unit tests (beta)

official Node.js documentation AbortSignal.any added version 20.3.0 18.17.0
💡 Result:
Yes. The official Node.js documentation lists **`AbortSignal.any(signals)`** as added in **v20.3.0 and v18.17.0**. It returns a signal that aborts when any input signal aborts. ([nodejs.org](https://nodejs.org/docs/latest/api/globals.html?utm_source=openai))
The Node.js release notes independently confirm the implementation in both releases: [v20.3.0](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v20.3.0) and [v18.17.0](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v18.17.0). ([nodejs.org](https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v20.3.0?utm_source=openai))

Handle Node 20.0–20.2 compatibility.
The repository declares Node >=20, which includes versions before AbortSignal.any was added in Node 20.3. When a caller provides init.signal, this code can throw TypeError: AbortSignal.any is not a function before fetch runs.
Add a compatibility fallback for Node 20.0–20.2, or declare the SDK's minimum Node version as >=20.3.

AbortSignal.any was added in Node 20.3.0, so this call is unavailable on 20.0–20.2. The root manifest says >=20, while the SDK manifest has no engine minimum.
There is an existing inconsistency in the dependency requirements: the SDK depends on @voltagent/core ^2.7.4; even core 2.7.4 requires the OpenTelemetry logs exporter ^0.204.0 and trace exporter ^0.203.0. Those minimum versions (logs, traces) already declare ^18.19.0 || >=20.6.0. That does not establish the intended SDK support policy by itself.
Native composition preserves caller cancellation after response headers, while the response body is still being consumed, without adding a long-lived manual forwarding listener. Removing such a listener when fetch resolves would lose that behavior.
Could a maintainer confirm the intended minimum SDK runtime before we choose compatibility handling or align the declared minimum? This also addresses the duplicate concern in the cubic review.

@lux-liang Thanks for the clarification. My original finding treated the root >=20 requirement as the SDK support policy. That inference was too strong. The dependency engine requirements also do not establish the intended SDK minimum.
A maintainer needs to confirm that minimum before choosing a fallback or changing the SDK declaration. The compatibility question remains open pending that decision.
Any fallback must preserve caller cancellation during response-body reads. Removing a forwarding listener when fetch resolves would break that behavior.

Learning: In packages/sdk/src/client/index.ts, VoltAgentCoreAPI.fetchWithTimeout must preserve caller cancellation after fetch resolves, while the response body is still being consumed. A manual signal-composition fallback must not remove its caller-abort forwarding listener merely because fetch has returned response headers.

RequestInit.signalbehavior without changing the API.@voltagent/sdkhas been addedWhat is the current behavior?
sendRequestreplaces the caller'sRequestInit.signalwith its internal timeout signal. A pre-aborted POST is still sent, cancelling an in-flight request has no effect, and cancellation cannot stop reading a streamed response body. What is the new behavior?
Compose the caller signal with the SDK deadline using
AbortSignal.any. Caller cancellation reaches native fetch and its response body. SDK timeouts remainVoltAgentAPIErrorwith status 408; competing aborts retain the first signal's reason. Clear the deadline timer infinallyon every fetch outcome. Before response headers, caller abort reasons propagate unchanged. Body reads retain the runtime's native fetch semantics, which differ between Node 20 and Node 24.

Summary by cubic
Fixes the SDK's handling of caller abort signals so that pre-aborted requests are not sent and in-flight requests and response bodies can be cancelled. Combines the caller's signal with an internal timeout signal via
AbortSignal.anyinstead of replacing it. Preserves caller abort reasons before response headers and native fetch behavior during body reads. Keeps SDK timeouts reported as HTTP 408 and clears the deadline timer on every outcome. Fixes #1443.Written for commit fcdcbd8. Summary will update on new commits.
