Summary
Conversation persistence now acknowledges each buffered message after its memory write completes. If an adapter fails, the failed message and any later messages stay pending for the next flush. The queue opts into receiving storage errors from
MemoryManager.saveMessage()after its existing logging and tracing work, so it can tell whether a write actually succeeded. Background
The queue previously called
drainPendingMessages()before writing the batch. Draining cleared every pending ID at once. A failure on the first write therefore left the entire batch unavailable to a later flush; a failure midway through the batch lost the remaining messages. The manager's catch block could hide adapter failures from the queue by resolving its promise after logging the error. This is visible when a storage adapter has a temporary outage or a write times out. The live buffer can still contain the conversation, but the saved history lacks messages that the queue no longer knows to retry.
The queue writes messages sequentially for a conversation. That gives us a precise recovery rule: after a failed write, messages before it have been confirmed by storage, while the failed message and everything after it still need a write. The buffer now represents that rule directly instead of treating a whole batch as saved or unsaved at once.
Changes
drainPendingMessages()behavior for its other callers.MemoryManager.saveMessage()callers an explicitthrowOnErroroption, and use it in the persistence queue. DirectgenerateObjectandstreamObjectcallers retain their existing best-effort memory behavior.@voltagent/core.The version attached to a pending snapshot matters when a response is still being assembled. A message can gain a tool result or metadata while an earlier snapshot is awaiting storage. A successful write of the earlier snapshot acknowledges only that snapshot; the later version stays pending for the next flush.

The queue still serializes writes per conversation. Successful messages are acknowledged one at a time, so the retry set contains only work that has not been confirmed by storage. The version check protects updates that arrive between taking the snapshot and completing the write.
Closes #1425
Summary by cubic
Fixes conversation persistence so buffered messages stay pending until their memory writes succeed, and retries failed writes on later operations even across agent turns.
MemoryManager.saveMessage()gains athrowOnErroroption; the persistence queue opts in so failures stop pending messages, while agent responses remain best effort.@voltagent/core.Written for commit d0a5efd. Summary will update on new commits.
