Summary

Publish moving latest and latest-cli aliases alongside versioned GHCR images, and add a portable Docker Compose setup for running the GitHub scheduler on Linux or macOS.

The Compose template includes persistent storage, read-only .dlt configuration, placeholder-only credential examples, a configuration preflight, and operational guidance. Local secrets, private keys, and generated configuration remain ignored by Git.

Validation

  • docker compose -f docker-compose/compose.yaml config --quiet
  • python3 -m py_compile docker-compose/check_config.py
  • git diff --check
  • Exercised the preflight with dummy BHE credentials and a generated GitHub App key
  • Exercised DLT filesystem and DuckDB persistence through the Compose volumes
  • Exercised scheduler polling and graceful shutdown against a local dummy BHE endpoint

Ticket: BED-10186

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added a Docker Compose setup for running the GitHub scheduler with persistent storage and a local preflight that checks configuration and write access before startup.
    • Added example configuration for connecting to BloodHound Enterprise and GitHub.
    • Container releases update the latest scheduler and latest-cli tags when publishing the newest version; older releases do not overwrite those aliases.
  • Documentation

    • Added Compose setup, update, storage, and troubleshooting guidance, including recommendations for using versioned image tags.

Walkthrough

The publishing workflow adds latest and latest-cli image aliases and updates them only for the newest release tag. The repository adds a Docker Compose deployment for the GitHub scheduler, with configuration examples, preflight checks, persistent storage, and operating instructions.

Changes

Container deployment

Layer / File(s) Summary
Image tags and release selection
.github/workflows/publish-container.yml, docker-compose/.env.example, README.md, docker-compose/README.md
The workflow adds target-specific latest aliases and updates them only when the release tag is newest. The examples and documentation describe image selection and updates.
Configuration and preflight
.gitignore, docker-compose/.dlt/*, docker-compose/check_config.py, docker-compose/README.md
The example files define DLT settings and placeholder credentials. The preflight checks required values, the BHE URL, GitHub App credentials and key, and write access to configured directories. The guide documents configuration, permissions, and troubleshooting.
Compose startup and operations
docker-compose/compose.yaml, docker-compose/README.md
Compose prepares persistent storage before starting the scheduler. The guide documents startup, logs, volume operations, and the scheduler’s BHE polling behavior.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the two main parts of the changeset. It says the PR publishes moving latest image tags, which the publish-container workflow and README changes cover, and adds a Compose setup, which the docker-compose directory adds. The title uses the conventional fix: prefix with the BED-10186 ticket reference. It is short and specific, so it passes.

- Line 124: Update the image-publishing workflow so retries always publish the
versioned tag, but update the moving `latest` and `latest-cli` aliases only when
the release is still the newest; use the `steps.image.outputs.latest_tag`
publishing step to locate the alias update and prevent an older run from
reassigning it.
