Easy way to install on windows powershell:

Instead of dealing with manual zip extractions and paths, you can use Windows' official package manager to handle everything for you.

Open PowerShell and run this simple command:

winget install Schniz.fnm

Use code with caution.
WinGet will download, extract, and automatically configure the paths for you instantly.

Connect it to PowerShell

Once you have installed it (either via manually setting the path or using winget), restart PowerShell and complete the initialization by wiring up your profile:
1. First, make sure your profile file actually exists by running:

if (!(Test-Path -Path $PROFILE)) { New-Item -ItemType File -Path $PROFILE -Force }

Use code with caution.

Open that profile file in Notepad:

notepad $PROFILE

Use code with caution.

Paste your initialization string at the very bottom of the document and save it:powershell
fnm env --use-on-cd --shell powershell | Out-String | Invoke-Expression
Use code with caution.

Restart PowerShell one last time. You can now successfully type fnm install 22 (or whichever Node version you need) without it throwing errors or failing silently
