Keep videos open at their end and survive failed seeks - #2
Conversation
mpv unloaded a file when it finished, so seeking or replaying afterwards failed. fxcode stored that failure as a fatal player error, which ended the whole render loop. Keep the file open at its end without pausing, and treat a failed seek as a no-op. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- Around line 978-979: Update the return-seek check around controls.seek_to and
wait so it verifies a position reported by libmpv after processing the request,
not the value immediately written to controls.position(). Keep the regression
test effective when seek errors are ignored.

seek_to stores the target as the position right away, so the regression test passed before the control thread applied the seek, and even when set_position was never called. Replace that optimistic value with a sentinel, so only a time-pos refresh from libmpv can satisfy the check. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Stacked on #1 (
feat/text-widget).Seeking a playing video past its end made the app exit with
mpv: error running command. mpv had unloaded the finished file, so the seek failed, and the player stored the failure as a fatal error. Every laterrenderanddraw_video_framescall returned it.Changes:
keep-open=yesandkeep-open-pause=no, so a video that plays to its end stays on its last frame. Seeking back resumes playback, andseek_to(0.0)replays it. A seek past the end no longer fails; in testing, mpv then restarted from the beginning.seekandset_positioncommands instead of treating them as fatal. Load and decode errors stay fatal, as before.Testing
seeking_past_the_end_keeps_the_player_usabletest, opt-in like the other libmpv tests throughFXCODE_TEST_VIDEO. It seeks 200 s past the end, seeks again, then replays from 0. It fails on the base branch with the same error and passes here.cargo testpasses; it needs the untrackeddocs/cars.mp4.FXCODE_TEST_VIDEO=docs/cars.mp4 cargo test -- --include-ignoredalso passes the libmpv frame test.cargo clippy --all-targets -- -D warningsstill reportschunks_exactlints inkitty.rstests on the current toolchain. They come from the base branch and are unrelated to this change.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
