Loop42 helps long-running, AI-assisted development stay understandable, verifiable and resumable.
Instead of letting chats, tools, branches and workers slowly drift into different versions of reality, Loop42 keeps returning to a few simple questions:
What is actually true now? What is the next useful thing to do? Are we allowed and able to do it? Did it really work? Is another round still worth it?
PR #78, including #79, is integrated into main at 91e4cf99a5d9cbaece517dbe9a1b209e6abc1dc5.
- Approved public task text can enter the existing GitHub/local Codex handoff in one command, with RED/GREEN verification, isolated candidate commit and automatically published receipt. See operation and setup.
- Codex proposals require a complete, consistent event stream and matching final proposal. Verifier-created history/index changes, symlinks and permission changes block completion. Duplicate or ambiguous starts never silently rerun.
- Combined candidate
39c8df3: 334 local tests run, 333 passed / 1 platform skip. Linux/Windows CI and secret scan succeeded; both completion gates passed on the exact candidate. Those are pre-merge receipts, not a claim about a later commit's CI. - Real synthetic Codex/GitHub runs are documented in #78 at their original revisions. No new live model call was performed for the combined correction.
- Arbitrary Chat/Work kickoff and unattended triggering remain unqualified. A capable local host and explicit project profile are required. This is no general model-quality or production-autonomy approval.
- Other optional drafts remain separate. Consumers retain their existing pins. Private memory/reflection remains research;
NO_GO_PRODUCT_INTEGRATIONremains in force.
Earlier dated checkpoints below are historical; they do not override this integration or current GitHub checks.
Loop42 is not an AI model, a project-management app or a second database for your project.
It is a reusable working method plus small tools that help a project stay on one current truth while humans, AI models and automation work on it.
| Common failure mode | Loop42's response |
|---|---|
| Old chats or assumptions are treated as current | Reconcile against live sources first |
| Several workers create competing versions of the project | Keep one authoritative project state |
| Automation keeps going because it can | Use explicit authority, capability and stop limits |
| "Looks good" replaces proof | Require evidence, verification or visible uncertainty |
| Work is repeated after interruptions | Recover from explicit state, decisions and checkpoints |
| More process is mistaken for more progress | Stop when another pass adds no useful value |
The internal method is called the Matrixloop. In human terms:
- Reconcile — check the live state instead of trusting stale context.
- Choose one target — pick the next useful, bounded piece of work.
- Pre-mortem — look for obvious ways the plan could fail before spending effort.
- Implement or inspect — do the work that is actually needed.
- Verify — test the result against evidence.
- Check friction — notice unnecessary setup, operator work or complexity.
- Check value — ask whether another pass would create a real improvement.
- Stop or iterate — continue only when there is a distinct reason.
Technical shorthand:
RECONCILE → TARGET → PRE-MORTEM → IMPLEMENT/INSPECT → VERIFY → FRICTION → VALUE CHECK → STOP/ITERATE
The sequence is a guide, not a ritual. Steps can collapse when the required evidence already exists.
One truth, many workers.
A project keeps its own authoritative state. Models and tools may inspect, challenge and improve it, but they should not silently create competing truths.
Evidence before confidence.
Important claims should point to reproducible evidence, an exact revision or clearly marked uncertainty.
Bounded autonomy.
Automation may act inside explicit authority and capability limits. Missing access, evidence or capability stays visible instead of being guessed away.
Useful change over process volume.
A loop that produces no new decision, evidence, defect discovery or implementation value should be simplified or stopped.
Recovery by design.
Interrupted work should be resumable from explicit current state, accepted decisions, verified results and open blockers.
Portable by default.
Provider-specific behavior belongs behind adapters. The method should not depend on one AI vendor, IDE, chat surface or local model.
Execution fit before operator work.
Before handing setup steps to a human, check whether the path is actually possible, useful and worth the friction.
Loop42 is project-agnostic. Consumer projects keep their own product state. Loop42 supplies the reusable working method and supporting mechanics around that state.
CORA is the first consumer project. CORA keeps its own product state and pins an exact verified Loop42 revision rather than automatically following every new commit on main.
- Executable local handoff — integrated issue #77 flow: bounded worker execution, verification and independently readable recovery; direct cross-surface triggering remains capability-dependent.
If you want to understand the system rather than read every file:
- Matrixloop — the lifecycle and stop rules
- Execution Fit / Deutsch — can and should this work actually run?
- Recovery and Truth — source-of-truth, stale-state and recovery rules
- Harness Contract — what an execution environment must be able to do
- Consumer Profile — how a project binds to an exact Loop42 revision

Integrated code checkpoint: d55096114e4561df61fa2e6140c1ed83436dbd3a (through #61/#62, after the earlier core contracts and documentation reconciliation). The local-client proposal adapter and persisted-receipt recovery are now integrated; they do not grant general autonomous project execution.
- Integrated #61 at
0b6d1bb823167f8ed4e77c33cd99da7f96024e6d: exact-task-bound local-client WorkerProvider. Output remains PROPOSAL; trusted transport, identity, timeouts and capture limits remain consumer responsibilities. - Integrated #62 at
d55096114e4561df61fa2e6140c1ed83436dbd3a: persisted verification-receipt recovery and bounded regular-file CLI input. The final integrated tree equals the independently reviewed combined candidate; a stored receipt still needs current source/subject/verifier evidence. - Draft #72,
23a5ba3c87ff3fa4984433ec9f153de920cc73cf, remains on unmerged #49 (de2d250a00ce141fcd00a35200ee012103ef6e61). Its refreshed CI40232382948 passed 235 tests on its exact parent basis. Gitleaks did not trigger for that target branch. Before adoption, reconcile against the now newer main and run the then-required checks. - Draft #51 tool/plugin/skill selection and other optional drafts remain proposals. Do not treat an older stack as a prerequisite or shipped capability. Issue #40 remains the authoritative agent-evaluation acceptance record; narrow worker examples do not establish general model quality.
- Private memory/reflection research is not integrated into this public product. No general learning, authenticated cross-project memory or automatic skill-adoption claim is made.
- CORA remains a separate consumer and still pins
5470cd0b36774698a69c6ff61ff1a016dab036b8. Its own profile determines adoption.
Integrated-main CI40233824040 and secret scan40233824078 passed on d55096114e4561df61fa2e6140c1ed83436dbd3a. The referenced earlier candidate runs remain revision-bound history. Optional drafts remain unmerged; no release, deployment, added permission or hardware authority is implied.
Why 42?
Because good systems need bounded loops, honest evidence, recoverable state —
and occasionally the right question before the right answer.
