ACE-Step 1.5: Hybrid Audio-Reference Workflow (Low Effort Training) #427

I hope that other people can improve this workflow so that its weaknesses and limitations can be overcome. It is not a perfect solution but its a start. Specials thanks goes to Tremolo at CivitAI for the original workflow. It is a very tricky workflow but it can create unique song with a variety of vocal timbres similar to a LoRA or LoKr. I'm stuck with an AMD GPU so I struggled for months to compensate which lead to creating this workflow. |

ACE-Step 1.5 — Latent-Init Reference Audio with Duration Control (ComfyUI)A ComfyUI workflow for ACE-Step 1.5 that generates a new song starting from a reference track's audio latent instead of from pure noise. The result keeps the reference's vocal timbre and instrumentation far more strongly than the standard "reference audio" conditioning does, while lyrics and tags still come from an LLM (Ollama) or from your own text. This build also adds duration control: output length follows a "Length in seconds" value instead of being locked to the length of the reference file. Workflow file: How it worksStandard approach (what this replaces)The model starts from noise and is only nudged toward the reference. Timbre carries over weakly. Latent-Init ("hard" conditioning)The reference is encoded into the same latent space the sampler works in, and the sampler starts from that latent.
Duration control
Limit: maximum output length is 2× the reference file. Beyond that, chain another Workflow layout

🚀 Overview
The ACE-Step 1.5 Hybrid Workflow is a high-fidelity control architecture designed to bridge the gap between simple prompting and expensive model training. It implements a Hybrid Control Loop that manipulates the model's output by controlling the Skeleton (the rhythmic/melodic latent) and the Skin (the vocal/textural conditioning) independently.
This workflow provides a professional-grade alternative to LoRA/LoKr training, allowing users to "breed" new musical styles and vocal identities through advanced latent-space manipulation.
🧠 The Core Concept: Skeleton vs. Skin
Traditional generation relies on semantic prompting. This workflow moves into Structural Engineering by splitting control into two paths:
VAEEncodeAudio, a reference track is encoded directly into a latent and fed into thelatent_imageinput of the samplers [2, 3]. This locks in the tempo, rhythm, and melodic structure.ACEStep15XLReferenceAudionode, the specific vocal timbre and texture are applied to the latent [1].Important
Duration Constraint: In this "Hard Conditioning" mode, the output length is strictly bound to the duration of your loaded reference audio file; it will not follow the "Length in seconds" setting [2, 3].
🛠 Workflow Modes
Depending on your objective, you must adjust the Denoise and CFG parameters to move between different operational modes.
1. The "Training Alternative" (Musical Variation)
Goal: Create entirely new songs (new instruments/genres) while retaining a specific singing voice.
0.65 – 0.75(High denoise allows the model to overwrite the original melody/drums).7.3for SFT) to force adherence to your genre/style tags.2. The "Repaint Protocol" (High-Fidelity Restoration)
Goal: Edit or repair an existing song (remove artifacts, improve vocal clarity, or fix "machine-gun" glitches).
0.20 – 0.35(Low denoise ensures the original melody and rhythm remain untouched).⚙️ Parameter Guide
📝 Best Practices for Success
Data Curation
UVR 1or2) to isolate vocals before using them as a reference. This prevents "instrumental bleed" from corrupting the vocal conditioning..wav(44.1kHz, 16-bit, Stereo) via FFmpeg to prevent codec-related silence or decoding errors.Prompt Engineering (The Architect Method)
To achieve high-fidelity results, your captions must follow the strict ACE-Step 1.5 hierarchy [1]:
[]to define the temporal script (e.g.,[Chorus],[Verse]).[raspy vocal]or[powerful belting]to define the texture [1]..for long breaths and commas, for short pauses to control the AI's breathing rhythm [1].This workflow is an advanced tool for professional audio engineering. High denoise settings on Turbo models can lead to numerical instability (NaN values). Always monitor your VRAM and stability when pushing parameter limits.
